As one of the UFC’s biggest draws, the UFC featherweight champion has been inundated with fans and media wherever he goes. Going up to challenge for the lightweight title against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197 in March raising the stock of the outspoken Irishman. With a win, McGregor will be the first fighter in UFC history to simultaneously hold belts in different weight classes.
Although McGregor has said that the welterweight belt is awfully tempting if he happens to make history with a win over dos Anjos, it would be hard to believe he would be able to defend the featherweight title in a timely fashion. Making weight from fighting at 170 pounds and then dropping back down to 145 pounds is a whole ‘nother story. Nonetheless, if Conor McGregor moves up to fight at welterweight and finds success, the sky is the limit for “The Notorious” one.
