Chael spoke with UFC Today’s Ariel Helwani about a possible move to the Light Heavyweight division. “There is simply an option to start over by changing weight class. My mentors have done it, and it could happen. I would go up to 205. Jon Jones. There are some great guys at 185, but traditionally and historically, it is a good way to get a fresh start and start over.”

By Evan Stoumbelis Today the UFC held the press conference for UFC 152, which will take place on September 22nd in Toronto. The event will serve as BJ Penn‘s comeback fight, where he hopes to defeat the up and coming Canadian Rory MacDonald. During the course of the press conference Rory went on record as saying: “He’s upset because Georges whooped him, but I’m going to hurt him (BJ Penn) even worse.” UFC (@UFC) tweeted the quote by MacDonald.

By Evan Stoumbelis Last Saturday, Strikeforce broadcasters reported that undefeated fighter Daniel Cormier will have his final Strikeforce fight on September 29th. The promotion has yet to announce Cormier’s opponent, but after the fight, Cormier will be making the jump to the UFC regardless of the outcome. Rumors circulated that his opponent would be Josh Barnett, but this has yet to be confirmed. Cormier won the Heavyweight Grand Prix in May, and also wrestled for Oklahoma State in college, and Team USA in the Olympics

Whether or not they have settled their rivalries was not important at UFC 132, however, as both Liddell and White were caught off guard by Ortiz’s out-of-nowhere submission victory. Surprised, they joined the crowd in attendance in their standing ovation.

By Evan Stoumbelis Last Friday Johnson vs McCall II headlined UFC on FX 3, where fans saw Demetrious Johnson defeat Ian McCall via unanimous decision. Johnson now moves on to fight Joseph Benavidez to become the first ever UFC Flyweight champion. Unfortunately, after seeing a slight climb in viewers during UFC on FX 2, numbers dropped by 300,000 for UFC on FX 3. The prelims, which aired on Fuel TV also suffered a drop in viewers, with 29,000 less people tuning in. As I watched the event I noticed it was lacking in the star-power aspect, which is understandable given that the UFC is holding 20 events in 22 weeks. Below is the compiled ratings for all 3 UFC on FX shows as well as the prelims hosted on Fuel TV.

Originally Faber was slated to face longtime rival Dominick Cruz at UFC 148 on July 7th in Las Vegas, but Cruz had to drop out with an ACL tear; Now Faber will be facing Renan Barao in Calgary at UFC 149 on July 21st. The reason behind the date switch, Jose Aldo dropping out of the UFC 149 main event against Eric Koch due to a knee injury.

By Evan Stoumbelis Matt “The Immortal” Brown is stepping in for fellow TUF competitorMatt Riddle to face Luis Ramos at UFC on FX 4 on June 22nd. Brown, who is coming off a decision victory to Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson at UFC 145, announced the bout over Facebook earlier today. In my opinion, Brown isn’t going to make a title run, I just can’t see him squaring off against Condit for the title. That being said, he is easily one of my favorite fighters, and his very exciting style of fighting that he has deemed “technical brawling” keeps fans on the edge of their seats. This fight on June 22nd is sure to be no different.
