UFC 236 was a card to remember.
The card was topped by a pair of interim title fights — both of which registered as instant classics in the eyes of pretty much everybody who tuned in.
The first of these interim title fights occured in the always entertaining UFC middleweight division, where undefeated contender Israel Adesanya battled TUF winner Kelvin Gastelum with a shiny new belt on the line. After five wild rounds, which saw both men absorb a ton of punishment, Adesanya captured UFC gold with a unanimous decision win.
The second interim title fight on the UFC 236 bill — the evening’s main event — occurred in the lightweight division, where brick-fisted contender Dustin Poirier battled buffed-up featherweight champion Max Holloway. In a similarly thrilling scrap, Poirier defeated a game Holloway by unanimous decision, finally earning his long-desired UFC belt.
Both of these fights — and many of the other contests that occurred at UFC 236 — are the kind that are very much worth revisiting. And what better way to revisit them in awesome slow motion?
