VIDEO | Dana White foresees Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor 2 in 2019, ‘this fight should happen’

By Drake Riggs - January 2, 2019

“I think a lot of people want to see that fight,” UFC President Dana White said of a rematch between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor. “We gotta see how this thing… Obviously, again, we still haven’t gone before the Nevada State Athletic Commission. That’s gotta happen, and when that does we can figure out how this whole thing plays out. Is Max [Holloway] moving to [1]55 [pounds]? Tony Ferguson… Obviously in the mix. So we gotta see how this thing plays out.

“Yeah, I do [think the rematch happens]. Obviously, guys are going to have to win, depends on how long the suspensions are and things like that but yeah, I mean as long as everything goes right, this fight should happen.”

When Khabib Nurmagomedov finally became the undisputed lightweight king, it was expected that everything in the division would go back to normal. Well, that, unfortunately, hasn’t quite been the case.

In fact, some may even say it’s gotten slightly worse as the champion awaits his fine and suspension for his post-fight antics at UFC 229 when he defeated Conor McGregor. Which is a problem in its own right.

Despite Dana White saying the Nurmagomedov vs McGregor rematch is a possibility, he at least continues to mention Tony Ferguson, who many want to see get the next shot. However, that doesn’t seem to be what Nurmagomedov and company are looking at next.

If Dana White really does end up making Nurmagomedov vs McGregor 2 in 2019 though, we really cannot be all too surprised.

As lopsided as the first outing was, it doesn’t change the fact that the bout headlined the most purchased pay-per-view event in the organization’s 25-year history.

A rematch surely wouldn’t do bad numbers by any stretch of the imagination.
