Max Holloway willing to fight Renato Moicano on an hour’s notice if Brian Ortega doesn’t show up

Yesterday afternoon, it was announced that Brazil’s Renato Moicano will be the standby fighter for the UFC 231 main event. He will be called to arms in the event that UFC featherweight champ Max Holloway or undefeated challenger Brian Ortega isn’t able to show up.

Apparently, Moicano is very ready for the opportunity. In fact, he advised Max Holloway to just stay home.

“I am really happy for this opportunity,” Moicano told MMAjunkie this week. “I will become champ, be it this time or next. And, Holloway, you are a great champion, but Toronto is freezing! You should stay in Hawaii and take care of your health, man!

It did not take Max Holloway to respond to this light-hearted comment from Moicano. While he maintains he is determined to battle Brian Ortega in Toronto, he says he’s also willing to fight Moicano — even if all he gets is an hour’s notice.

“Tell Moicano thank you for the offer, but I’ll be seeing him sooner or later,” Holloway told MMAjunkie. “Just be ready for anything. Thank you for the offer. He’s a great dude, cool guy, awesome guy. That’s very funny. I look forward to seeing that guy, too, one day.”

“I would take him on three hours’ notice,” Holloway added. “I’ll take you on an hour’s notice. I don’t care. Everyone was like, ‘The Khabib (Nurmagomedov) fight, you’re crazy for taking this on a weeks’ notice.’ Look, they’re taking the fight with me. You’re taking a fight with me. I don’t care who it is. Whoever. They’ve got to remember who they’re fighting and who they’re fighting against, and that’s me.”

If Max Holloway does fight Brian Ortega as planned, he’s expecting a dominant showing.

“I’m going to go out there and do what I do best,” Holloway said. “People keep saying this is going to be one of my hardest fights. I’m going to go out there and make people like, ‘What was that?’ That’s my game plan.”

Who do you think would win a short notice fight between Max Holloway and Renato Moicano?
