Manager claims Kamaru Usman is ‘100%’ fighting Tyron Woodley for welterweight title in March

According to manager Ali Abdelaziz, streaking welterweight contender Kamaru Usman will “100%” get the next shot at UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. The fight will apparently occur at UFC 235, which goes down on March 2 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Abdelaziz made this claim on a Wednesday episode of MMAjunkie Radio.

Kamaru Usman, who is currently ranked second at welterweight, has more than earned himself a welterweight title shot with his incredible 13-fight win streak, highlighted by lopsided defeats of fighters like Rafael dos Anjos, Demian Maia, Emil Meek and Sergio Moraes.

That being said, this claim from Abdelaziz is likely to generate some debate, as many fans want to see Tyron Woodley defend his title against former interim champion Colby Covington next.

As a matter of fact, the only thing Woodley and Covington seem to agree on is that they should fight each other next.

“I want to whoop Colby’s ass to be honest,” Woodley stated on a recent episode of The Hollywood Beatdown. “Because they done built this dude up. They allow [Colby] to annoy the universe with his terrible sh*t. He’s garbage. I think it is just way more to sell this fight, and the [UFC] is not going to allow me to fight a guy like [Conor] McGregor, or let me go up a weight class. I’ve never been allowed to go up a weight class to fight for a title. I have asked to do it a million times. [Michael] Bisping, then they let GSP [Georges St-Pierre] come in and fight him.”

“So if those fights aren’t on the table, I’m gonna end up fighting [Kamaru] Usman anyways, so let me fight Colby first! Let me get this bag right quick, and let me whoop his ass!”

“We do agree on one thing, that we want to fight each other next,” Covington said on episode 108 of BJPENN Radio, echoing Woodley’s sentiment.

If this Tyron Woodley vs. Kamaru Usman title fight is indeed in the works for UFC 235, we can probably expect it to serve as the main event of the card. The card will also feature a welterweight showdown between former UFC champ Robbie Lawler, and former Bellator and ONE champ Ben Askren.
