Khabib Nurmagomedov borrows famous Conor McGregor quote on social media

By Tom Taylor - January 11, 2019

Shortly after Conor McGregor defeated Dustin Poirier at UFC 178 in 2014, he proclaimed to his throngs of Irish fans in attendance “if one of us goes to war, we all go to war!”

It’s one of the best one known quotes from the trash-talking Irish superstar, and one that’s now been borrowed by his arch rival Khabib Nurmagomedov — with a twist.

“If one of us go to the war, We all go to the war…” Nurmagomedov wrote in the caption for a photo of himself and his close friends and training partners. “But it’s different story.
Deeds will always be above words.”

Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov fought recently, in the main event of UFC 229 — the most successful pay-per-view in UFC history. On that night, Nurmagomedov defeated McGregor by fourth-round submission.

Post-fight, Nurmagomedov leapt over the cage and attacked McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis, evidently vengeful after being the target of months of pre-fight trash talk from McGregor. Simultaneously, McGregor got into it with several of Nurmagomedov’s teammates inside the cage. All parties involved in this chaotic, post-fight skirmish are now awaiting discipline from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

While neither Conor McGregor nor Khabib Nurmagomedov will fight until their punishment is served, UFC President Dana White recently suggested their much-discussed rematch could go down in 2019.

“I think a lot of people want to see that fight,” UFC President Dana White told TMZ Sports when asked about this rematch. “We gotta see how this thing… Obviously, again, we still haven’t gone before the Nevada State Athletic Commission. That’s gotta happen, and when that does we can figure out how this whole thing plays out. Is Max [Holloway] moving to [1]55 [pounds]? Tony Ferguson… Obviously in the mix. So we gotta see how this thing plays out.

“Yeah, I do [think the rematch happens]. Obviously, guys are going to have to win, depends on how long the suspensions are and things like that but yeah, I mean as long as everything goes right, this fight should happen.”

Whatever the case, the beef between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor seems to be alive and well.
