Jon Jones teases fight with Stipe Miocic in July

By Mike Pendleton - March 27, 2019

Current light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is looking for his next fight, and he may have found it in the weight class above him. Shortly after Chael Sonnen reported that he heard a fight was in the works between Jones and former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, Jon Jones added fuel to the fire.

Jones most recently defeated Anthony Smith to retain his light heavyweight title at UFC 235 earlier this month, and UFC President Dana White has said that they’re looking to book Jones’ next fight against Thiago Santos.

While Thiago Santos elevated himself to top contention in the light heavyweight division after his knockout win over Jan Blachowicz this past February, the bigger fight for Jones awaits him at the heavyweight division.

As for the former heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, he hasn’t competed since losing the title at UFC 226 to Daniel Cormier last July, but has been steadily pursuing a rematch with Cormier.

There have been rumors that Cormier could defend his title against former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar this July, and adding a fight between Miocic and Jon Jones would set up International Fight Week with big fights that have major implications in the heavyweight division.

Would you like to see Jon Jones jump to heavyweight and face Stipe Miocic or stay at light heavyweight against Thiago Santos?
