Georges St-Pierre acknowledges Khabib Nurmagomedov callout, promises answers tomorrow

By Thomas Taylor - February 20, 2019

On Wednesday morning, reports surfaced that former UFC welterweight and middleweight champ Georges St-Pierre plans to formally announce his retirement from MMA at a press conference in Montreal on Thursday morning. It is alleged that St-Pierre is retiring because his desired fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov could not be made a reality.

Shortly after this news surfaced, Khabib Nurmagomedov took to Instagram to urge Georges St-Pierre to reconsider his retirement plans.

“Let’s do it in November.
After this fight you can retire. I grow up on your fights, and have nothing but respect for you, and I believe showed that to you George when you were in Moscow.
But, it would be honor for me to share Octagon with one of the greatest fighters of all time.
Let’s do it 155 lbs, or I give away 5lbs to you, cause you newer done 155.
Well, it’s your choice 155 or 160, Montreal, NYC, Moscow or Abu Dhabi.
Send me location my Friend”

Speaking to ESPN reporter Ariel Helwani, Georges St-Pierre acknowledged this callout, but said a fight with the UFC lightweight champ is outside either of their jurisdiction. He also promised to provide clarity on everything at tomorrow’s press conference.

“I saw what Khabib wrote, and I appreciate it very much,” St-Pierre told Helwani. “Unfortunately, these decisions aren’t up to us. I will address everything at the press conference tomorrow.”
