Chris Weidman vs. Kelvin Gastelum set for UFC on FOX 25

former middleweight champion

A key middleweight scrap between former division title holder Chris Weidman and streaking contender Kelvin Gastelum will headline UFC on FOX 25 which takes place July 22 on Long Island, New York.

UFC officials just confirmed the bout at today’s UFC Summer Kickoff Press Conference.

Chris Weidman finds himself in desperate need of a win this after suffering three TKO losses in a row to opponents Luke Rockhold, Yoel Romero and Gegard Mousasi respectively.

Weidman’s most recent win came at UFC 187 in May of 2015, where he scored a TKO victory over Vitor Belfort.

Meanwhile, Kelvin Gastelum was most recently seen inside the cage this past March in Brazil, where he scored a first-round TKO victory over the aforementioned former UFC Champion Vitor Belfort in the main event of UFC Fight Night 106.

Unfortunately for Gastelum, his win over “The Phenom” was recently changed to a no-contest, this after he tested positive for marijuana.

Prior to running over Belfort, Gastelum had picked up a TKO victory over Tim Kennedy at December’s UFC 206 event in Toronto, Canada.

Gastelum has gone 13-2, with 1 no-contest, in his mixed martials arts career.
