Tyron Woodley on GSP: if he does not fight me, by default I will be the best welterweight of all-time
Tom Taylor - July 31, 2017
Former UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre, who has not fought since late 2013, is widely regarded as the greatest welterweight of all time. Current UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley, who has now defended the title three times, is keen to usurp St-Pierre’s rep as the welterweight GOAT. If Woodley could beat St-Pierre, of course, he’d have a much easier time claiming to be the best. Unfortunately, St-Pierre doesn’t seem interested in accepting a fight with Woodley, and is instead keen on fighting UFC middleweight Michael Bisping. Woodley thinks this is because St-Pierre is avoiding him – which should make him the welterweight GOAT by default.

Russell Ess - July 25, 2017
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley is set to defend his title this weekend at UFC 214 against Demian Maia. Maia has proved to be a top welterweight contender after dropping down from the middleweight division and is on a seven-fight winning streak dating back to 2014 and will get his second chance at getting UFC gold. Woodley is concentrating on his opponent but was asked on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour about former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre and his long awaited return to the Octagon. Initially, St-Pierre was scheduled to face Michael Bisping for the middleweight title. However, a delay in St-Pierre’s schedule dealing with an eye injury scrapped the middleweight title matchup and UFC President Dana White insisted that “Rush” will fight for the welterweight title when he is ready to compete again.

More recently, however, Woodley, the UFC and White seemed to be getting along swimmingly. Woodley even attended White’s son’s birthday party. On a recent episode of Sway in the Morning, the welterweight champ flaunted his skills on the mic, dropping a pretty impressive freestyle rap.

Tyron Woodley: "pound-for-pound, I'm the hardest punching fighter in the entire UFC"
Tom Taylor - July 6, 2017
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has knocked a lot of people out. He’s knocked even more people down, some of them multiple times in a single fight. Needless to say, the champ hits incredibly hard. If you ask Woodley himself, he’s probably the hardest hitter in the UFC, pound-for-pound – especially now that the brick-fisted Anthony “Rumble” Johnson has called it a career.

In one of the most exciting fights on the main card between Felice Herrig and Justine Kish, Kish defecated while fighting off a near fight-ending submission attempt from Herrig. Brown stains could be seen on the canvas shortly after the grappling exchange. Kish was a good sport about the unfortunate incident and joked about the situation on social media following the fight saying, “I am a warrior, and I will never quit #ShitHappens haha be back soon.”

Tyron Woodley respects fellow "hustler" Michael Bisping
Tom Taylor - June 15, 2017
Not all that long ago, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping agreed to a catchweight superfight. Despite their clear interest in fighting one another, however, the fight never came to fruition. Instead, Woodley now appears to be closing in on a title defense opposite Demian Maia, while Bisping is currently nursing an injury, and is expected to return against the winner of Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker’s interim middleweight title fight. While this catchweight superfight has been relegated to the back burner for now, it is one that still interests Woodley, and one that surely still interests Bisping. And though they have swapped some trash talk in the past, their mutual interest in this fight is not borne of bad blood. In fact, Woodley actually has a good deal of respect for the middleweight champ.
Welterweight champ Tyron Woodley heaps praise on Conor McGregor
Tom Taylor - June 15, 2017
UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor have certainly had their issues in the past. When Woodley heard the news that the Irishman had finally made his much-discussed boxing match with Floyd Mayweather happen, however, he could only offer his respect. “I immediately started thinking in my mind how I’m going to be at the fight, that’s the first thing I thought” Woodley told BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor of his reaction to the news. “Obviously, you know, me and Conor haven’t seen eye-to-eye a couple of times, but from a standpoint of what he does for the sport – I’ve made a lot of money being on the same card as him. Do I really want to sit here and act like I can’t stand this dude or I can’t respect him? I’d be lying to you. I respect the hell out of his hustle, and what he’s done to put himself in this position that he’s in. His ability to go out there and make himself this larger than life figure, and then to get the pound-for-pound best boxer of our generation to come out of retirement and fight him? Come on now. Give the dude his due. Everybody stand up, everybody clap. He is now the ambassador of quan. He just made something that happen that wasn’t even fathomable in our minds. So with that being said, I can deal with it and I’m excited to see it.”

bjpenndotcom - May 16, 2017
This past weekend, on the main card of UFC 211, top ranked UFC prospect Demian Maia picked up a win over Jorge Masvidal to extend his win streak to 7, and cement his place as the UFC welterweight #1 contender. With his win over Masvidal, Maia now has likely secured himself a fight for the UFC welterweight championship. With that being said however, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley still has his eyes on another opponent while Maia takes some time off following his win over Masvidal.
