Current UFC bantamweight kingpin T.J. Dillashaw (16-3 MMA) will be dropping down to flyweight to challenge newly crowned 125-pound champ Henry Cejudo at UFC Fight Night 143 on January 19 in Brooklyn. Dillashaw will enter his title fight with the former Olympic Gold medalist on a four-fight win streak. TJ’s most recent wins came against Cody Garbrandt who he knocked out at both UFC 217 and UFC 227.

On January 19, in the main event of the UFC’s first card on ESPN+, reigning UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw will drop down to the flyweight division to battle divisional king Henry Cejudo for his title. First, of course, TJ Dillashaw will have to successfully cut down to the flyweight limit of 125 pounds. Henry Cejudo’s manager Ali Abdelaziz has some serious doubts that that will happen.

On January 19, in the main event of the UFC’s first card on the streaming service ESPN+, UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw will drop down to flyweight to challenge divisional champ Henry Cejudo for his belt. Heading into this fight, one of the biggest challenges TJ Dillashaw is expected to face is the weight cut down to the 125-pound flyweight limit itself. He tends to look pretty buff when he fights in the 135-pound bantamweight division, and some fans have a hard time envisioning him safely making the cut down to flyweight.

UFC 233 will no longer be headlined by TJ Dillashaw and Henry Cejudo for the flyweight title. According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, that fight has been moved to January 19 to headline ESPN+ in Brooklyn, New York. The UFC was hoping to start off the ESPN-era with a great card but struggled to find an adequate main attraction. After weeks of searching, they inevitably decided to move the Dillashaw vs. Cejudo Flyweight title fight to the January 19 fight card.

What weight class that the bout will be at is unknown right now. However, it seems to make the most sense to have the fight at bantamweight given the fact it is reported that the UFC is closing the flyweight division.

Cejudo’s hope, he explained, was to move up to bantamweight and challenge Dillashaw in an attempt at becoming a two-division champion. At first, TJ Dillashaw didn’t seem receptive of this idea. More recently, however, Dillashaw has said he actually does want to fight Cejudo — though he wants to move down to flyweight to challenge Cejudo for his title, not the other way around.

On the same night, Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo did the unthinkable, capturing the UFC flyweight title from seemingly unstoppable flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson. Since then, Dillashaw and Cejudo have flirted with the notion of fighting each other. At first, the idea was that Cejudo would move up to bantamweight to challenge Dillashaw. More recently, however, Dillashaw and his coach Duane Ludwig have implied interest in dropping to flyweight to fight Cejudo.
