UFC welterweight contender Sean Brady was left befuddled by Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland’s sportsmanship at UFC 328 after their beef.

The UFC 328 grudge match between Khamzat Chimaev and Sean Strickland didn’t disappoint last Saturday in Newark. In a five-round war, Strickland earned a narrow split decision win to reclaim the middleweight throne and hand Chimaev his first-career loss in Mixed Martial Arts.

It was a stunning finish to what was a chaotic fight week at UFC 328. Chimaev and Strickland each had a 24-hour security detail with them throughout the week to keep them separated, although the two rivals still came face-to-face at the pre-fight press conference and ceremonial weigh-in.

To the surprise of many, Chimaev and Strickland kicked off their fight by touching gloves and exchanging pleasantries, despite a controversial pre-fight buildup. Strickland insulted Chimaev’s religion, family, and masculinity in the lead-up to UFC 328.

One top star from UFC 328, Sean Brady, wasn’t a fan of the sudden turn in Chimaev and Strickland’s public relationship.

In a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Brady was asked for his thoughts on Chimaev vs. Strickland, and their surprising sportsmanship inside the Octagon at UFC 328.

“If you’re talking about my Mom, my children, my religion, I’m fighting you in the parking lot and wherever I see you, it’ll be like Peter Griffin and the rooster in Family Guy, they’re always fighting each other,” Brady said of Strickland and Chimaev.

“You can’t talk about people that way and then be all ‘buddy-buddy’ about it [after]. I get selling a fight, but there are certain things you just can’t say. Once you cross that line, there’s no coming back…I’m a fan of Khamzat and Strickland, but when they started dapping each other up in the cage, I was like…you guys just did all that, all the security, all the s*** talking, for that? It was a good fight, but not what we thought it was going to be.

“People would’ve tuned in for that fight regardless,” Brady continued. “You have to keep that same energy, forever.”

Just a few fights before Chimaev vs. Strickland, Brady got back into the welterweight title mix with a dominant victory over Joaquin Buckley. After UFC 328, Chimaev plans to move up to light heavyweight and potentially fight for a second title.
