This Saturday (December 17), the UFC will return to sunny Sacramento, California with UFC on Fox 22.

The card will be headlined by a compelling strawweight scrap between 22-year-old prospect Paige VanZant, and former Invicta atomweight champion Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson. Before these two talented strawweights get at it, however, we’ll witness a welterweight clash between Mickey Gall and “Super” Sage Northcutt, who will battle in the co-main event.

In advance of this clash of welterweight prospects, the UFC has released the latest instalment of their Road to the Octagon series for the bout. This video, which follows Northcutt as he prepares in Dallas, Texas, and Gall as he sharpens his tools in snowy Montreal, Canada can be viewed at the top of this article.

Northcutt will enter this Sacramento showdown having most recently defeated Enrique Marin on the undercard of UFC 200. Prior to this victory, the 20-year-old experienced the only loss of his career – an arm-triangle choke dealt by fellow prospect Bryan Barberena. This loss was preceded by a submission defeat of Cody Pfister, and a TKO of Francisco Trevino in his UFC debut. He’s now 8-1 overall.

Gall, meanwhile, is famous as the man who welcomed pro wrestling star CM Punk to the world of MMA. He did so in September, on the main card of UFC 203, with a lopsided beating that culminated in a first-round rear-naked choke. Prior to that win, he made his Octagon debut with a blitzkrieg submission win over the outmatched Mike Jackson. He’s now 3-0 overall.

Other features of the UFC on Fox 22 lineup include the final fight of MMA legend Urijah Faber, who will take on English veteran Brad Pickett, a welterweight scrap between “Platinum” Mike Perry and Alan Jouban, and a second welterweight showdown between Bryan Barberena and Colby Covington.

Who do you think comes out on top when Gall and Northcutt mix it up in Sacramento? Sound off, PENN Nation!
