EXCLUSIVE | For Renato Moicano, fighting Jose Aldo 'means everything'

Cole Shelton - January 27, 2019

Renato Moicano is a rising star in the UFC’s featherweight division. He’s been with the UFC since 2014 and has gone 5-1 during that time with his only loss coming against Brian Ortega. Since the loss to Ortega, Moicano defeated Calvin Kattar and Cub Swanson to then become the backup fighter for the UFC 231 main event. Moicano ended up not having to fight as Max Holloway and Ortega both made weight. However, being the backup fighter showed he was the number one contender at featherweight, and he has to prove that when he takes on Jose Aldo at UFC Fortaleza.

Renato Moicano to serve as alternate for Max Holloway vs. Brian Ortega fight

Tom Taylor - November 28, 2018

If UFC featherweight champ Max Holloway or undefeated challenger Brian Ortega isn’t able to make it to the cage for their anticipated UFC 231 main event title fight, Renato Moicano will be called up to step in and replace the absent fighter. The streaking Brazilian featherweight contender will fly to Toronto, the card’s host city, and weigh-in as an understudy, according to ESPN. Moicano was originally expected to battle Mirsad Bektic on this anticipated card, but unfortunately, this bout was nixed when Bektic sustained an injury. Though the promotion apparently sought a replacement opponent for him, they ultimately decided to simply fly him into Toronto as an understudy.

Renato Moicano vs Mirsad Bektic added to UFC 231, Moicano expects to be main event alternate

Drake Riggs - October 22, 2018

It was reported earlier this month that the surging top featherweight contender Renato “Moicano” Carneiro (13-1-1) was to face Chad Mendes for his next time out. That, however, appears to no longer be the case. Combate has now reported that the currently No. 4 ranked contender Moicano will now be facing off against a fellow rising contender, Bosnia’s Mirsad Bektic (13-1) at UFC 231 on December 8 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. According to the report, Moicano says he expects to act as the alternate fighter if needed in the case of an injury to either man in the night’s featherweight title fight main event between the champion Max Holloway and the unbeaten challenger Brian Ortega.

Tom Taylor - August 21, 2018

When UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway is ready to return to action, he will almost certainly return to a title defense opposite top contender Brian Ortega. That means that surging Brazilian contender Renato Moicano is going to have to wait before he gets his desired shot at the champion. In the meantime, Moicano is hoping for a huge fight with former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
