Reebok payout for UFC on Fox 23: Both main event fighters get $2,500

On Saturday night, the UFC touched down in beautiful Denver, Colorado with UFC on Fox 23.

UFC on Fox 23 main event

In the evening’s main event, Valentina Shevchenko stopped Julianna Peña with a second round armbar. The co-main event, meanwhile, saw Jorge Masvidal deliver a substantial upset with a second-round thrashing of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. The rest of the main card, finally, saw Francis Ngannou club Andrei Arlovski and Jason Knight tap Alex Caceres, while the undercard highlights included decision wins from Sam Alvey and Raphael Assuncao, who defeated Nate Marquardt and Aljamain Sterling respectively.

At this stage, fighter purses for this action-packed, 12-fight card have not been released. We do, however, know how much each of the card’s  24 fighters took home through the UFC’s oft-criticized outfitting deal with sports apparel giant Reebok.

Under the UFC’s deal with Reebok, fighters are paid based on the amount of fights they’ve had in the UFC’s Octagon, and in the Zuffa-owned eras of Strikeforce (April 2011 and after) and WEC (January 2007 and after). Champions and title challengers, however, are paid $40,000 and $30,000 respectively, regardless of their experience in the aforementioned promotions. These are the two highest payouts possible under this UFC-Reebok partnership.

The biggest earners of the UFC’s latest trip to Denver were Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, Andrei Arlovski, and Nate Marquardt, who pocketed $20,000 each on the strength of their many fights in the UFC, WEC and Strikeforce cages. Both main event fighters, meanwhile, took home just $2,500 – the lowest amount possible under the UFC’s deal with Reebok.
