UFC 325 Results: Mauricio Ruffy TKO’s Rafael Fiziev (Video)

Fiziev (13-5 MMA) will be returning to action for the first time since June of last year, where he scored a decision win over Ignacio Bahamondes. Prior to that triumph, ‘Ataman’ was on a three-fight losing skid, this after dropping fights to Mateusz Gamrot and Justin Gaethje (x2) respectively.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Ruffy (13-2 MMA) will enter the bout looking to rebound, this after suffering a submission loss to Benoit Saint Denis in his most recent Octagon appearance this past September. Prior to that setback, Ruffy had gone 3-0 under the UFC banner, this while scoring knockout wins over King Green and Jamie Mullarkey.

Round one of this UFC 325 lightweight contest begins and Rafael Fiziev swings and misses with a low kick attempt. He goes upstairs but misses with that kick as well. Mauricio Ruffy with a low kick that connects. Fiziev with a left hand that partially connects. The fighters trade low kicks. ‘Ataman’ continues to apply pressure. He lands a left and looks to force the clinch. Ruffy breaks free and circles back to range. The fighters engage in the pocket and then clinch. Mauricio Ruffy pushes Rafael Fiziev against the cage. ‘Ataman’ breaks free and lands a body kick. The Azerbaijani product continues to hunt Ruffy with relentless pressure. Mauricio with a decent jab. He leaps in with a good left hook. Another punch finds the mark. ‘One Shot’ is beginning to find his rhythm here. Rafael Fiziev with a nice jab. Ruffy with a knee and then a nice right hook. Fiziev continues to pressure. He eats another right hand. A big uppercut and then a jab from Ruffy. The horn sounds to end round one.

Mauricio Ruffy answers with a spinning back kick that partially connects. ‘One Shot’ with a low kick. ‘Ataman’ answers with a pair of low kicks of his own. Ruffy doubles up on his jab. Fiziev counters with a left hook. Ruffy with a good right hand. Fiziev attempts a spinning high kick, but misses. A low kick from Ruffy lands. Fiziev goes to the body with a right hook. Mauricio Ruffy with a right hand. Now a body shot and then a jab. Fiziev is landing, but only on shot at a time. A huge right hand lands for Ruffy. He lands another and Fiziev is down. Big shots from the fighting nerd. He continues to batter him with shots. The referee steps in and this one is all over! WOW!
