Paulo Costa feels closer to UFC light heavyweight title shot after UFC 327

UFC veteran Paulo Costa has said that he feels closer to a championship opportunity at light heavyweight after UFC 327.
Last weekend at UFC 327, Paulo Costa picked up arguably the biggest win of his career thus far. He was able to defeat and finish Azamat Murzakanov, and in doing so, many believe he put himself in the conversation for a title shot at light heavyweight, which would appear to be his new home as opposed to middleweight.
Costa has been in a weird space for quite some time now. A lot of people have often felt like he hasn’t quite reached his full potential ever since losing to Israel Adesanya during the pandemic, but it does seem like he is starting to put the pieces together.
In his post-fight media scrum, Costa had the following to say about possibly getting a crack at the gold at 205 pounds instead of 185.
Costa talks about possible UFC title shot
“I feel good,” Costa told reporters at the UFC 327 post-fight press conference. “I feel great, but I don’t put a lot of attention (on the finish) because my training didn’t change. The fight before this against Kopylov, man, I was knocking him out. I connected with a straight right on the chin, and he fell down. There were small details to change for me to get the knockout in the very first round.”
“I think so. I think so,” Costa said when asked if he felt closer to a title shot at light heavyweight than middleweight. “I think I’m new blood in the division, and I think this is good. I got very good feedback at the press conference. I think people are excited to see.”
“That’s going to depend on how things end up setting up,” Costa said. “If they think I’m closer to 205 to fight for the title next, OK, so I stay.”
