Conor McGregor noncommittal to future fight with Rafael dos Anjos

Conor McGregor and Rafael dos Anjos were initially slated to fight in the main event of UFC 196 on March 5th for the UFC lightweight title. Unfortunately, dos Anjos broke his foot earlier this week and was forced out of the bout. Ultimately the UFC selected Nate Diaz as a fill-in opponent, and the bout was moved from lightweight to welterweight.

After Rafael dos Anjos withdrew from his UFC 196 lightweight title fight against Conor McGregor on Tuesday, there was much speculation as to who would step in to fight Conor McGregor. Donald Cerrone was the first person to offer to fill in for dos Anjos, and even began starting to cut weight in anticipation of getting the fight.

Wednesday afternoon at the UFC 196 press conference in California, Conor McGregor threw some verbal jabs at Rafael dos Anjos, Frankie Edgar, and Jose Aldo. McGregor taunted dos Anjos for pulling out of the fight with a ‘bruised foot’, as well as taunting Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo for not accepting the fight after campaigning for it for so long.

After Rafael dos Anjos withdrew from UFC 196 with a broken foot, there was much speculation as to who would fill the slot opposite McGregor. The UFC offered Jose Aldo a rematch on short notice at lightweight, however Aldo turned the rematch down, with his coach revealing that Aldo wasn’t in fight shape.
