Jose Aldo on turning down UFC 196 fight: 'It's not cockfighting'

Following Jose Aldo’s UFC 194 KO loss to Conor McGregor, the former champ stated that he wanted a rematch with Conor McGregor regardless of whether or not the UFC featherweight championship was on the line. Aldo began his campaigning for a rematch with McGregor, however UFC President Dana White pointed out that the first time the UFC booked the bout, Aldo backed out with an injury, then when the fight did happen Aldo lost in 13 seconds.

Jim Ross knows about show business. The WWE legend has over 40 years in the business of professional wrestling and Ross has seen what makes certain individuals shine brighter than the rest. Ross appeared on MMA Junkie Radio recently and spoke about the stars Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz fighting in the main event at UFC 196 on March 5th. “It’s one of those intangible things,” Ross said (transcribed by MMA Junkie). “I had the opportunity to hire a lot of talent for WWE back in the day – some pretty good guys, as a matter of fact. But there’s an intangible ‘it factor’ that you have to feel. It’s a feel thing; you can’t quantify it like, ‘He’s the right height, he fits all the measurables and everything.’ It’s a matter of the ‘it’ thing where you are motivated to listen to what they have to say, you’re anxious to the next thing they say and when they’re fighting you can’t take your eyes off of them and want to be a part of that fight. You want to buy the pay-per-view.

Michael Bisping passes Anderson Silva in UFC rankings

On Saturday in the main event of UFC London, Michael Bisping and Anderson Silva went to war for 5 rounds. Ultimately, all 3 judges scored the bout in Bisping’s favor, giving him the unanimous decision win. With that being said, many, including UFC President Dana White, believed that the bout should have been scored in Silva’s favor. This lead Silva’s camp to reveal that they plan to try and get the loss overturned.

However, with less than two weeks given for an opportunity to rematch Conor McGregor, Aldo turned down the fight when McGregor’s originally scheduled opponent Rafael dos Anjos pulled out due to an injury and spoke on the MMA Hour about his decision. “Any professional needs time to train,” Aldo said (transcribed by MMA Fighting). “It’s not a cockfight where I go there and put my rooster to fight. It’s a high-level sport, I’m going there to do my job. When I have time to train, it can happen at any time, anywhere.”

According to a source close to the situation MMA Pioneer Mikey Burnett and his son Freddie were shot in a busy parking lot near 31st and Garnett in Tulsa, OK. Police say it was a botched robbery. Freddie was shot once in the leg and Mikey was shot three times in the abdomen.

At the end of the 3rd round, actually the final second of the 3rd round, Anderson Silva jumped off the canvas and hit Michael Bisping in the face with a flying knee. Down goes Bisping, Silva jumps up on the cage to celebrate his 3rd round KO. Unfortunately referee Herb Dean did not call an end to the fight and Silva had to be taken off the top of the cage and convinced the fight was still on. Bisping makes it thru the next 2 rounds and, as most of you know now, wins an unanimous-decision victory.
