After it was announced that Nate Diaz would be stepping in for Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196, the UFC held a ‘UFC 196: McGregor vs. Diaz’ press conference the very next day. McGregor and Diaz put on a verbal show for the fans as they talked trash for nearly 30 minutes straight! Over the course of the press conference, McGregor called Diaz a “cholo” and mocked him for teaching Jiu-Jitsu seminars to kids.

Back in January at ‘UFC Fight Night: Dillashaw vs. Cruz’ Matt Mitrione suffered one of the most gruesome eye injuries in the history of MMA at the hands of Travis Browne. Mitrione was poked in the same eye twice by Browne, which subsequently lead to him being unable to see out of that eye. Due to this, Mitrione couldn’t see a punch coming and had his orbital broken.

Two days ago Mikey Burnett was shot three times in the abdomen and his son Freddie was shot once in the leg while going to their car in a crowded parking lot. The shooting happened in Tulsa, OK east side.  Both Mikey and his son are expected to make a full recovery. The two arrested  are teens Harold Thompson, 16, and Kywaun Washington, 17. Both have admitted to police that tried to rob Burnett in the parking lot of the Rib Crib which is by the gym where Freddie and Mikey were working out.

Leading up to UFC 196, Jon Anik stated that if Nate Diaz is able to upset Conor McGregor in the main event, he will get a “209” tattoo in honor of Stockton native Nate Diaz. Anik may be surprised however to know that Diaz wasn’t too fond of the comment, and took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction.

After it was announced that Conor McGregor would be moving up to lightweight to fight Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 196 on March 5th, he revealed his intentions to also go up to welterweight to fight Robbie Lawler for the welterweight championship. Now that Rafael dos Anjos is out of their UFC 196 bout, and Nate Diaz has stepped in for a welterweight scrap with McGregor, many are wondering if McGregor will get a welterweight title shot at UFC 200 if he defeats Diaz.

While Jon Jones is currently slated to fight Daniel Cormier in a highly anticipated rematch for the UFC light heavyweight championship at UFC 197 on April 23rd, ‘Bones’ recently stated that he actually has his eyes set on a rematch with Alexander Gustafsson. Jones and Gustafsson fought to a decision back at UFC 165. While Jones retained the belt, many believed that Gustafsson should have left Toronto with the UFC light heavyweight championship.

By now the MMA world knows that Conor McGregor and Rafael dos Anjos won’t get to settle their beef on March 5th at UFC 196. A broken foot forced dos Anjos out of the bout, which lead to the UFC bringing Nate Diaz in as a fill-in opponent for Conor McGregor in the main event.

Fighting up a weight class or two seems impossible for most MMA fighters but not for Conor McGregor.  It’s not that he wasn’t training for a fight, he was, but it was supposed to be a 155 lbs. title fight instead of 145 lbs. where he is the champ. With the 155 lbs. champ pulling out with a broken foot the UFC had to scramble a little to find a replacement.  After several fighters said they would come to the rescue and fight Conor it was agreed the Nate Diaz would be the opponent but at 170 lbs.  A full two weight classes and 25 pounds above where he is the champ. No matter what happens this Saturday night March 5th McGregor can still go back down to 145 lbs. and fight for the title he all ready holds. Even so this is a huge risk for arguably the biggest star in the UFC.
