Conor McGregor's coach confirms he was gassed after round 1

At UFC 196 fight fans witnessed Conor McGregor suffer the first loss of his UFC career at the hands of Nate Diaz. Following the fight, McGregor chalked the loss up to an inefficient use of energy, which resulted in him gassing early on in the fight. It’s no secret that McGregor packed on quite a bit of muscle ahead of the fight, which resulted in many questioning whether or not he would be as quick. With Rafael dos Anjos withdrawing from their UFC 196 lightweight title fight, McGregor ended up moving up to welterweight, an extra 15 pounds higher than the lightweight limit of 155 pounds.

Ahead of UFC 196 there were rumors of a potential GSP vs. Conor McGregor fight at UFC 200 if McGregor were to defeat Nate Diaz. Ultimately, Diaz submitted McGregor in the 2nd round of their welterweight fight.

This past Saturday the UFC women’s bantamweight division was shaken up as Miesha Tate defeated Holly Holm via 5th round submission in the co-main event of UFC 196. Following the fight UFC President Dana White revealed that Tate would now face Ronda Rousey in a trilogy match when the former champ was ready to return to the Octagon.

While it was reported recently that Anderson Silva would not be competing at UFC 198 in his hometown of Curitiba Brazil due to a lack of challengers, one man has stepped up to the plate. MMA veteran Gegard Mousasi, fresh off his unanimous decision win over Thales Leites at UFC London, has challenged Silva to a fight at UFC 199 in June, or UFC 200 in July. Mousasi defeated Leites on the same card that Anderson Silva lost to Michael Bisping on last month.

It’s no secret that Fabricio Werdum and Conor McGregor don’t like one another. The pair’s beef extends back quite some time, but grew to an entirely new level when McGregor bashed Werdum during his 2016 World MMA Awards acceptance speech. Several weeks ago when Rafael dos Anjos was forced to withdraw from his UFC 196 lightweight title bout with Conor McGregor, Werdum jumped to his teammates defense as McGregor claimed dos Anjos simply sustained a ‘bruised foot’ in training. Of course, dos Anjos broke his foot and will be sidelined for 3-6 weeks.

Nate Diaz became a millionaire with just one fight against UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor. UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos was supposed to be in that spot, but an injury forced him out of the fight with McGregor leading Diaz to step in as a late replacement.

The bookies as of late have had it right in who is the favorite and Rousey comes in big. The fight is not official as of yet but that doesn’t stop the bookies from getting a jump on the action. Miesha Tate is the newly crowned champ and Ronda Rousey just lost the belt to Holly Holm. Of course Holly Holm lost the belt to Tate last weekend at UFC 196. Currently the odds look like this.

Dana White is not upset after losing arguably the biggest PPV event ever for the UFC later this year with the rematch of Holm v Rousey. He has expressed that he feels sorry for Holly Holm but not for the reason you think. He doesn’t feel bad she lost only that she doesn’t know how much money she lost due to her manager Lenny Fresquez.

The Frankie Edgar title shot campaign continued following UFC 196, where Conor McGregor was submitted by Nate Diaz in the main event. Following the loss, McGregor stated that he plans to drop back down to featherweight to defend his championship belt. This opened the flood-gates for discussion regarding who would get the first crack at McGregor’s featherweight championship. While some want to see McGregor vs. Aldo II, Frankie Edgar wants the title shot that was promised to him after he knocked out Chad Mendes at the TUF 22 finale back in December.
