Rumor: Conor McGregor turned down a rematch with Nate Diaz

According to the original founder of MiddleEasy.com, Zeus Tipado, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has turned down an offer from the UFC to rematch Nate Diaz at July’s UFC 200 event in Las Vegas. Zeus, who has employed very close members of the Diaz camp, took to Twitter to drop the news. Check it out:

UFC veteran Nate Diaz picked up the biggest win of his mixed martial arts career this past weekend in Las Vegas when he submitted Conor McGregor in the second-round of their UFC 196 main event fight. Since earning the epic stoppage victory over the current UFC featherweight champion, in a bout that took place at welterweight (170 pounds), much speculation has been made in regards to who the ‘Stockton Slugger’ should fight next.

Although Nate Diaz proved victorious in the main event of UFC 196, the ‘Stockton Slugger’ still suffered quite a bit of damage in his epic second-round submission victory over featherweight champion Conor McGregor. Diaz’s ‘Scrap Pack’ teammate Jake Shields admitted to Sherdog Radio that Nate got a little more busted up than the team had hoped for in the first round of the UFC 196 main event fight. But Shields insists that he was never worried about Nate and that getting ‘beat up’ was all part of the game plan. His words:

Former Strikeforce champion Jake Shields was quite confident that his teammate Nate Diaz would be able to defeat Conor McGregor on short-notice at this past weekend’s UFC 196 event in Las Vegas. The former UFC welterweight title challenger, who now fights for the World Series of Fighting promotion, told Sherdog Radio that he bet and won money on his long time teammate Nate Diaz on March 5: “I absolutely thought Nate was going to win. I went and bet money on him. There were things I was worried about. Like the fact that Nate was in Cabo right before the fight. Him and [Gilbert Melendez] were out in Cabo, drinking, eating, you know, having fun and partying, not training, so that was in the back of my head. Nate’s a cardio freak, so I was like, ‘Well hopefully that doesn’t hurt him.’ I definitely thought Nate was gonna win. I think Conor’s a great fighter, but I think he got a little overhyped.”

McGregor's Coach says the UFC 196 loss to Nate Diaz was not a result of weight gain

Fans and analysts have been critical of Conor McGregor’s performance at UFC 196, many blaming the “weight gain” for his submission loss to Nate Diaz. McGregor’s strength and conditioning coach John Connor does not believe that the loss had anything to do with Conor’s weight gain and that he was at “peak condition” going in to the bout. His words:

Holm showed tremendous heart as she fought the choke, refusing to tap, while ultimately lead to her being choked unconscious.

Tim Kennedy is never one to shy away from speaking his mind. After the UFC announced their partnership with Reebok, Kennedy spent the next several months refusing to support the deal while he sat on the sidelines. Part of the deal between the UFC and Reebok stated that fighters would get a certain percentage of money when fans bout that fighter’s “fight kit.” Kennedy went as far as to tell fans not to purchase his fight kit because he made pennies from the purchase.
