While UFC President Dana White has announced that Conor McGregor will no longer be fighting at UFC 200 after refusing to fulfill his media obligations, there has been some question as to whether or not he will remain the featherweight champion. McGregor announced on Twitter yesterday morning that he was retiring from MMA, which would mean that he will be forced to vacate his featherweight championship. However during an appearance on Fox Sports 1 Wednesday morning, Dana White explained that McGregor needs to clear things up if he plans on holding on to his featherweight championship.

After it was confirmed Tuesday afternoon that Conor McGregor had been pulled from his UFC 200 main event scrap with Nate Diaz after refusing to attend a press conference in Las Vegas, MMA fans immediately began speculating as to who the UFC would select as a replacement opponent. As many were expecting, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone ‘knows a guy’ who is willing to step in and fight Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 200. While many suspected that the Tweet was a ‘troll job’ by McGregor, sources revealed that McGregor was not joking when he announced his retirement. This was then followed up by a Tweet from McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh, who revealed that McGregor was in fact retiring.
