A women’s bantamweight bout that would surely produce fireworks is being targeted for September’s pay-per-view event in Cleveland, as Combate is reporting that a fight between Bethe Correia and Jessica Eye is in the works for UFC 203. Bethe Correia (9-2 MMA) is coming off back-to-back losses in her two most recent octagon appearances. The Brazilian was knocked out cold by Ronda Rousey in her bid for the title at UFC 190, and most recently lost a close split-decision to Raquel Pennington in April.

During last weekend’s UFC 199 event in Los Angeles, UFC officials announced that former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar would be returning the octagon to fight on July’s stacked UFC 200 card. On Monday morning, Lesnar appeared on ESPN where he announced that he would be fighting heavyweight slugger Mark Hunt in his return to the UFC on July 9 in Las Vegas.

The mixed martial arts community was left in shock Monday evening when news broke that MMA icon Kimbo Slice had suddenly passed away at the tender age of 42. Today it was announced that SPIKE TV, the network who would have broadcasted his next fight, will be showing an hour-long “Kimbo” special on June 24 at 7:00pm EST. The “Kimbo Slice” tribute will lead into that night’s Bellator 157 “Dynamite 2” event in Arizona.

Mixed martial arts icon Kimbo Slice tragically passed away earlier this week in Cleveland. The 42-year-old superstar originally became famous from his backyard fight videos, which went viral on the Internet, and carried on to his big draw in mixed martial arts where he set record numbers.

Unfortunate news surfaced Saturday afternoon that former Bellator MMA fighter Ivan Cole was found dead in a Dallas apartment earlier in the day after shooting himself in the head while playing a game of Russian roulette. The Dallas Police Department confirmed Cole’s death on their website, where they reveal that Cole was killed around 7:31am Texas Time.

When Chris Weidman withdrew from his UFC 199 scrap with Luke Rockhold with just two weeks to go until fight night, many believed Jacare Souza would step-in on short notice to fight Rockhold. Unfortunately for Souza, he was forced to undergo surgery for a torn meniscus, and was unable to take the fight. Michael Bisping ultimately stepped in on short notice to fight Rockhold, and the rest is history.

Since winning the UFC featherweight championship back in December, Conor McGregor went up to welterweight for a UFC 196 fight with Nate Diaz, which was initially supposed to be a lightweight title fight with Rafael dos Anjos. McGregor lost the fight, and then was rebooked to fight Diaz at UFC 200, however he was pulled from the card after refusing to fulfill his media obligations for the event. Now, with Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo set for the interim featherweight championship at UFC 200, and McGregor vs. Diaz II set for UFC 202, many are wondering if McGregor will ever go back down to featherweight to defend his title.
