Nearly 6 months ago, Michael Bisping and Anderson Silva squared off in the main event of ‘UFC Fight Night: London’. The fight was a rather controversial one, with Bisping losing his mouthguard midway through the fight. When Bisping went to retrieve his mouthguard from referee Herb Dean, Silva took advantage of the situation and landed a flying knee at the bell that dropped Bisping. While The Spider initially thought that the fight had ended, it hadn’t, and Bisping went on to win the fight via unanimous decision, earning him a shot at the middleweight title.

Last month, MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko returned to the cage to fight UFC veteran Fabio Maldonado in the main event of EFN 50 in Russia. The fight was a controversial one, with Emelianenko getting the win via majority decision. Immediately following the fight, Maldonado and his team revealed that they would be appealing the decision. The head judge for the World MMA Association, Radmir Gabdullin, who is a longtime friend and training partner of Fedor Emelianenko, denied Maldonado’s appeal.

In the co-main event of UFC 200, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will make his highly anticipated UFC return against Mark Hunt after nearly 5 years away from the Octagon. The UFC announced Lesnar’s return during the broadcast of UFC 199, just over a month before his scheduled fight on July 9th at UFC 200. With the fight being on short-notice, Lesnar was exempt from the first 3 rounds of USADA random drug testing.

News surfaced Friday evening that UFC heavyweight Daniel Omielanczuk had failed a USADA-administered out-of-competition drug test and been notified of a potential anti-doping policy violation according to MMAFighting. Omielanczuk tested positive for meldonium, which is on the WADA banned substance list as of January 1st. The strange part of Omielanczuk’s case is that he won’t be provisionally suspended due to the lingering questions regarding the drug.

It sounds like Michael Bisping and Dan Henderson are getting the fight they both want. Combate reported on Friday that UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping and #13 UFC ranked middleweight Dan Henderson have both verbally agreed to fight one another for the UFC middleweight title in October. The report states that the contracts are expected to be signed in the coming weeks with the official announcement from the UFC coming shortly after.

After winning the UFC featherweight championship by knocking out Jose Aldo in the main event of UFC 194, Conor McGregor opted to go up to lightweight to fight Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title at UFC 196. Ultimately, dos Anjos was forced to withdraw from the fight with a broken foot, and was replaced by Nate Diaz on just two weeks notice. On fight night, Diaz submitted McGregor in the second round of their welterweight matchup.

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier were initially slated to have their highly anticipated rematch at UFC 197 on April 23rd in what was Jones’ first fight back in the Octagon since being stripped of his light heavyweight championship. Cormier pulled out of the fight with a knee injury, and was ultimately replaced by Ovince St-Preux on short notice. The fight became an interim light heavyweight championship fight, with the winner set to face Daniel Cormier for the undisputed light heavyweight championship.

Since then, Bisping has found himself being called out by nearly the entire middleweight division. In addition, Bisping revealed that former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre had contacted his team about a fight. St-Pierre hadn’t fought since his 2013 split decision win over Johny Hendricks, and while rumors have continually surfaced that St-Pierre will return to the Octagon, this remains the only time St-Pierre’s team officially requested a fight.
