Back in March, Nate Diaz stepped in on less than two weeks notice to fight Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 196 after UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos broke his foot during training. Diaz submitted McGregor in the second round, putting an end to McGregor’s hopes of earning a welterweight title shot, setting the stage for arguably the biggest rematch in UFC history. The pair are now slated to have their rematch at UFC 202 on August 20th in Las Vegas.

Jon Jones isn’t hiding the fact that he isn’t satisfied with the NAC’s referee selection for his UFC 200 rematch with Daniel Cormier. Jones’ team initially appealed the referee selection, however they ignored his concerns and moved forward with McCarthy as the referee for the bout. During a media scrum earlier this week, Jones explained why he doesn’t want McCarthy to be the referee for the fight, saying the he would “prefer any other referee but him.”

After Michael Chiesa withdrew from his July 13th scrap against #3 ranked lightweight Tony Ferguson, there was much speculation as to who the UFC would select as a fill-in opponent for ‘El Cucuy’ on such short notice. While many hoped #1 ranked Khabib Nurmagomedov would step up, ‘The Eagle’ is currently on the sidelines while celebrating Ramadan. Tuesday afternoon, Sherdog revealed that Ferguson would be facing 8-0 UFC newcomer Landon Vannata, who trains at the Jackson-Wink MMA Academy.

Northcutt lost the bout, being submitted via Von Flue Choke in the 2nd round, putting an end to his undefeated streak. Now, ahead of his UFC 200 fight against Enrique Marin in less than two weeks, Northcutt believes that his loss to Barberena was merely a fluke.

After much speculation as to whether or not he would return to the Octagon following his controversial split decision loss to Robbie Lawler for the welterweight championship, Carlos Condit will be returning to the Octagon at UFC 202 on August 20th to fight Demian Maia. While Condit is going into the bout after a loss, Maia will enter the contest on a 5-fight win streak that saw him most recently submit Matt Brown at UFC 198 in Brazil.

Good news for Carlos Condit fans. The former UFC interim welterweight champion said after his title fight with Robbie Lawler at UFC 195 that he would only be fighting in big fights that really got him excited. Condit mentioned at the time that it was basically the rematch with Lawler for the belt that he was interested in.

UFC veteran and alleged contract killer Amar Suloev passed away this week in his hometown of Anapa after a long battle with stage 4 stomach cancer according to BloodyElbow. Suloev, who trained alongside Fedor Emelianenko, fought professionally from 1999-2008, amassing a record of 24-7 throughout the course of a fight career that saw him fight in Pride FC, the UFC, M-1, and numerous other promotions.
