When Bisping went to retrieve his mouthguard from referee Herb Dean, Silva took advantage of the situation and landed a flying knee at the bell that dropped Bisping. While The Spider initially thought that the fight had ended, it hadn’t, and Bisping went on to win the fight via unanimous decision, earning him a shot at the middleweight title.

Last month, MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko returned to the cage to fight UFC veteran Fabio Maldonado in the main event of EFN 50 in Russia. The fight was a controversial one, with Emelianenko getting the win via majority decision. Immediately following the fight, Maldonado and his team revealed that they would be appealing the decision. The head judge for the World MMA Association, Radmir Gabdullin, who is a longtime friend and training partner of Fedor Emelianenko, denied Maldonado’s appeal.

Earlier this week, controversial news surfaced that UFC heavyweight Daniel Omielanczuk had failed a USADA administered out-of-competition drug test for Meldonium. The controversial aspect of the story is that Omielanczuk will not be suspended for the drug test due to the fact that the substance was added to the banned substance list on January 1st, and there’s still questions regarding how long it stays in the user’s system. In addition, there are questions as to whether or not Meldonium is actually a performance enhancer.

News surfaced Friday evening that UFC heavyweight Daniel Omielanczuk had failed a USADA-administered out-of-competition drug test and been notified of a potential anti-doping policy violation according to MMAFighting. Omielanczuk tested positive for meldonium, which is on the WADA banned substance list as of January 1st. The strange part of Omielanczuk’s case is that he won’t be provisionally suspended due to the lingering questions regarding the drug.

Combate reported on Friday that UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping and #13 UFC ranked middleweight Dan Henderson have both verbally agreed to fight one another for the UFC middleweight title in October. The report states that the contracts are expected to be signed in the coming weeks with the official announcement from the UFC coming shortly after.

The fight became an interim light heavyweight championship fight, with the winner set to face Daniel Cormier for the undisputed light heavyweight championship.
