Back in March, Nate Diaz stepped in on just two weeks notice to fight Conor McGregor in the main event of UFC 196. While the bout was initially supposed to be a lightweight matchup, the pair fought at welterweight. McGregor gassed out early in the fight, going into the second round looking rather flat footed. Diaz capitalized on the situation, landing a 1-2 combination that rocked the featherweight champ. McGregor then shot for a takedown, which ultimately resulted in Diaz securing a rear-naked choke, forcing McGregor to tap.

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier have been scheduled to fight 4 times now. Despite that, the pair have only actually ended up fighting once. When they met inside the Octagon, Jones won the fight in convincing fashion, defeating Cormier via unanimous decision. In the wake of their cancelled UFC 200 bout, Cormier knows he needs a break from Jones. The way the champ tells it, their rivalry has made him an “ugly” person.

After Urijah Faber recently dropped a one sided decision to Dominick Cruz in the co-main event of UFC 199, ‘The California Kid’ was noncommittal about his future in the Octagon. Less than a month after the bout however, it was announced that Faber would be returning to the Octagon at UFC 203 on September 10th to fight Jimmie Rivera. Despite being 0-4 in title fights in the UFC, Faber is confident that he can earn another title shot inside the Octagon.

Ovince Saint Preux was the last man to fight Jon Jones in the Octagon. Saint Preux did so on short notice as a replacement at UFC 197 after Daniel Cormier was forced to pull out of the fight with Jones due to an injury.

While most humans would likely only want to be in a hospital getting cared for with having a fractured skull, Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos opted to check out of the hospital and into his hotel. With having suffered a fractured skull that was a result of a fight-ending flying knee delivered by Michael Page, Santos’ ex-wife Cris “Cyborg” Justino set up a gofundme fundraiser to help Santos out. With Bellator MMA stepping up to pay for Santos’ medical bills in addition to giving him his win bonus in the KO loss to Page, Santos told MMA Junkie that he doing just fine.

UFC 200 took a huge turn just days prior to the event taking place when it was revealed that Jon Jones was pulled from the card for a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation. While news of Jones’ violation was known, the banned substances that Jones tested positive for was not released. However, Chael Sonnen and Rashad Evans both claimed that Jones tested positive for estrogen blockers prior to any official news being released on the subject.

However, Bellator MMA President Scott Coker said that they will be supporting Santos financially in his recovery.
