UFC 201 Results: Jorge Masvidal defeats Ross Pearson via decision

A welterweight bout between former lightweights Jorge Masvidal and Ross Pearson took place on tonight’s UFC 201 prelims in Atlanta. Round one begins and Pearson starts things off with a kick to the body of Jorge. Ross lands a couple of nice leg kicks. Jorge fires back with a leg kick of his own. He goes upstairs with a high kick that partially lands on Pearson. Ross with another nice leg kick. Masvidal misses with a leg kick but lands a jab. Jorge with a nice front kick to the body. Pearson misses with a wild right hand. Nice head kick and then a knee from Masvidal. Jorge with a nice jab. He comes in with a flying knee that misses. Pearson takes advantage of the miss and winds up on top on the ground. Masvidal scrambles and quickly gets back to his feet. Back-to-back nice knees from Jorge. He lands solid elbow inside on Pearson. Ross breaks free and lands a switch kick. A nice jab lands for Masvidal. Pearson stumbles back. Jorge with a nice short hook to end round one.

A heavyweight bout between Anthony Hamilton (15-5 MMA) and Damian Grabowski (20-4 MMA)took place during tonight’s UFC 201 prelims in Atlanta. Round one begins and Grabowski misses with a big punch. Hamilton connects with a right and then an uppercut. He follows up with some more big shots. Grabowski drops to the canvas. Hamilton with another follow up strike and the referee jumps in to stop the bout.

UFC 201 Results: Wilson Reis submits Hector Sandoval in round 1

A flyweight bout between Wilson Reis (21-6 MMA) and Hector Sandoval (12-3 MMA) kicked off the UFC 201 prelims on FS2. Round one begins and Sandoval with a nice kick to the body and then a hard kick to the leg. Reis shoots in for a takedown but it is not there. Hector lands a right hand and then a left. Another nice shot scores for Sandoval. Reis shoots in and scores with a takedown. He immediately takes the back of Hector. Sandoval scrambles and gets back to his feet. Reis immediately shoots back in and lands another takedown. He moves to the back of Hector and sinks in a rear-naked choke. Sandoval tries to defend but it is tight. Hector is forced to tapout.

A lightweight bout between Cesar Arzamendia and Damien Brown kicked off tonight’s UFC 201 pay-per-view event in Atlanta. Round one begins and Arzamendia opens things up with a switch kick that misses. Brown lands a counter right. Arzamendia comes forward and lands a flying knee to the body. Brown presses forward and lands an uppercut. He follows up with a big right hand that sends Arzamendia crashing to the canvas. Brown jumps on him and begins landing some ground and pound. Arzamendia rolls and sinks in a heel hook. The leg lock submission is deep. Somehow Brown is able to break free and get back to his feet. Brown lands a nice left. He follows up with back to back right hands, the second drops Arzamendia. Brown follows up with punches from the top and this one is all over!

Although UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping, and UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier frequently do Fox Sports 1 shows together, there is likely some tension between the pair given that Bisping knocked out Cormier’s teammate, Luke Rockhold, to win the belt at UFC 199. UFC featherweight Jeremy Stephens made headlines early this week when he politely called out former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar for a fight at UFC 205 in New York. While there has been no word yet as to whether or not Edgar is willing to accept the fight, Stephens is looking for another fight. Specifically an unsanctioned one with one of the many MMA keyboard warriors.

PED usage has been making headlines recently in the MMA world. With just two days to go until UFC 200, pound for pound kingpin Jon Jones was pulled from the historic event for a failed drug test back in June. Following the event, it was revealed that Brock Lesnar failed a random drug test in June, in addition to a fight night drug test. During a recent appearance on the Three Amigos Podcast, UFC welterweight Matt Brown called for a lifetime ban of fighters who pop for PEDs:

Two UFC champions pick Nate Diaz to defeat Conor McGregor

With UFC 202 less than a month away, the MMA community is torn on predictions for the welterweight rematch between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor on August 20th. Diaz won the pair’s first meeting after stepping in on just two weeks notice. Given his ability to win the fight on such short notice, many believe that he will once again defeat McGregor. On the other hand, many believe that McGregor will be able to fix the mistakes he made in the first fight, and emerge victorious.
