At one point in time, UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor was set to headline UFC 200 against Nate Diaz. With that being said, McGregor was ultimately pulled from the card for refusing to fulfill his media obligations for the event. Despite that, he was cageside on July 9th to watch as Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar squared off for the interim featherweight championship.

While Khabib Nurmagomedov may be the #1 contender on the UFC’s official rankings, UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez doesn’t think Nurmagomedov deserves a title shot. Prior to Nurmagomedov’s return to the Octagon earlier this year, where he TKOd UFC newcomer Darrell Horcher, Nurmagomedov defeated Rafael dos Anjos, who went on to become lightweight champ. The win over Horcher extended Nurmagomedov’s professional record to 23-0, and his UFC record to 7-0.

Last month, MMA veteran Eddie Alvarez shocked the world as he knocked out Rafael dos Anjos in just minutes to become the UFC lightweight champion. Alvarez hadn’t been champion for more than 24 hours before he decided to call out featherweight champion Conor McGregor, who was already slated for a UFC 202 fight with Nate Diaz on August 20th. Not only did Alvarez call for a fight with the winner of McGregor vs. Diaz II, he referred to the fight as an “easier fight”, which likely didn’t sit well with the featherweight champion. This month, in a separate interview, Alvarez once again called for a fight with McGregor, insinuating that the featherweight champ was scared to fight him.
