Chris Weidman vs. Yoel Romero set for UFC 205

The UFC 205 fight card is starting to take shape! Following several reports that former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman, and top ranked middleweight Yoel Romero would fight on the card, MMAJunkie has confirmed that the fight has been finalized. While the UFC has yet to formally announce the bout, fight fans can likely expect an announcement shortly.
Cain Velasquez weighs-in on potential Jon Jones immediate title shot

Leading up to UFC 200, all signs pointed to former UFC light heavyweight kingpin Jon Jones and UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier having their highly anticipated rematch in the main event of the bout. Both fighters made it to fight week uninjured, and were taking part in their media rounds ahead of the fight. Unfortunately, just 48 hours before the event, USADA informed the UFC that Jones had failed an out-of-competition drug test back in June. With no other option, the UFC was forced to pull Jones from the bout.

Former UFC welterweight title contender turned UFC analyst, Dan Hardy, had his career unfortunately cut short after being diagnosed with ‘Wolf Heart’ syndrome back in 2013. Hardy was in the midst of a 2-fight win streak which saw him KO striking phenom Duane ‘Bang’ Ludwig, and pick up a unanimous decision win over submission ace Amir Sadollah. Hardy was then booked to fight ‘The Immortal’ Matt Brown, however was forced to pull out of the bout and retire from MMA after the diagnosis of his heart condition.

When Cain Velasquez returned to the Octagon and defeated Junior dos Santos at UFC 155 to reclaim the UFC heavyweight championship, many believed that Velasquez would reign as the UFC’s heavyweight champion for quite some time. Unfortunately for Velasquez, he defended the belt twice before meeting Fabricio Werdum in the Octagon at UFC 188. Werdum dominated the fight, as Velasquez quickly gassed out, and ultimately picked up a submission win to claim the UFC heavyweight championship.

Despite having a staph infection, “Super” Sage Northcutt has been keeping busy on social media. The rising UFC star’s name came up recently after former professional wrestler CM Punk was handed a beating by 3-0 Mickey Gall. Gall called out Northcutt for a fight following his highly watched UFC win over CM Punk and it sounds like the fight will eventually take place. Jonathan Shrager of The Underground got some updates from Northcutt’s dad, Mark, on the staph infection and when asked about the possibility of his son facing Gall in New York at UFC 205, Mark said that they have been held up in training due to the Staphylococcus Aureus.

Coming off a blistering 16-second knockout win over Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva, Stefan Struve is looking to build on that momentum at UFC 204 in October. ‘The Skyscraper’ almost didn’t get the chance however after his original opponent Ruslan Magomedov was forced off of the card with a staph infection. Now, it appears Struve will remain on the card as Daniel Omielanczuk has agreed to step in as Magomedov’s replacement.
