A middleweight bout between Sam Alvey and Nate Marquardt served as the featured bout of tonight’s UFC on FOX 23 prelims in Denver, Colorado. Round one begins and Alvey lands a leg kick to start. Nate quickly takes the center of the octagon. He lands a left. Same responds with a low kick. Nate charges in with a right hand and the fighters proceed to battle in the clinch against the cage. Knees inside from Nate. Sam has him pressed against the fence however. Nate switches the position briefly but Sam is quick to jockey back in to the dominant position. Herb Dean steps in and breaks the fighters up. Nate comes forward with a push kick. He follows that up with a chopping low kick. Sam eats it and charges forward with punches. Nate avoids the strikes and circles out. Marquardt misses with a right hand but connects with a left kick to the body of Alvey. The fighters clinch and Alvey lands some knees to close out round one.

A key bantamweight tilt between Raphael Assuncao and Aljamain Sterling served as the featured bout of tonight’s UFC on FOX 23 prelims in Denver, Colorado. Round one begins and Sterling lands a low kick to start. He misses with a follow up high kick. Assuncao pumps his jab but it does not find a home. Another good leg kick from Ajamain. Assuncao responds with a hard leg kick of his own. He follows that up with a nice right hand. Sterling circles out and lands a low kick. Assuncao with a lot of forward pressure here. He lands a nice combination. He throws a low kick but it lands flush to the groin of Sterling. The bout is momentarily stopped so that Aljamain can recover. He does and we restart. Raphael lands a nice right hand and then a inside leg kick. Sterling replies with a low kick. Assuncao continues his forward pressure and lands a hard low kick. Sterling circles out. Aljamain comes forward and the fighters trade kicks. Sterling goes to the body with a kick but Raphael catches it and lands a right hand and then another. He lets go of Sterling’s foot and Aljamain immediately tries to go upstairs with a kick. It is blocked. Both men lands crisp jabs. Assuncao charges forward with punches. Sterling grabs the clinch and round one comes to an end.

UFC superstar Conor McGregor is currently on an indefinite hiatus from the Octagon due to the upcoming birth of his firstborn child. After his historic UFC 205 win over Eddie Alvarez in November, the two-division champion announced that he would be taking some time away from the Octagon due to the birth of his child in May. In the meantime, the UFC has booked Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson for an interim lightweight title fight, with the winner facing McGregor when he returns to the Octagon.

Saturday night on the main card of ‘UFC Fight Night: Denver’, streaking heavyweight contender Francis ‘The Predator’ Ngannou will face former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski in a highly anticipated showdown. There’s no secret that the fight is undoubtably the biggest of Ngannou’s career, taking a step up from fighting unranked heavyweights, to fighting #7 ranked Arlovski, however UFC President Dana White believes that Ngannou could very well be on his way to being the first longstanding UFC heavyweight champion.

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier made waves recently when he called out WMMA pioneer Gina Carano for her advice to Ronda Rousey following her UFC 207 loss to Amanda Nunes to close out 2016. Carano stated that Rousey should follow what she wants to do, insinuating that she should follow her passion for acting, which didn’t sit too well with Cormier. He fired back on UFC Tonight:

Top ranked UFC middleweight contender Michael Bisping may currently be on a tear of the UFC’s middleweight division, going on a 5-fight winning streak throughout 2015 and 2016 that saw him pick up wins over CB Dollaway, Thales Leites, and Anderson Silva before then picking up a short-notice win over Luke Rockhold to win the UFC middleweight championship at UFC 199.

In the main event of UFC 210, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will step into the Octagon to defend his title belt for the second time as he once again will meet heavy handed knockout artist Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson. Cormier announced the matchup earlier in the week during an appearance on Fox Sports 1’s ‘UFC Tonight’. This isn’t the first time the pair were scheduled to meet in the Octagon, back in 2016 at UFC 206 in Toronto, the pair were supposed to have their rematch for Cormier’s belt, however Cormier was forced out of the bout after he tore an adductor in his groin. Cormier revealed his intentions to return to the Octagon in early spring, which turned out to be right on point with the announcement of his April 8th fight with Johnson.

Headlined by a bantamweight number one contender fight between Julianna Peña and Valentina Shevchenko, co-headlined by a welterweight battle between Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Jorge Masvidal, and featuring other big names like Andrei Arlovski, Francis Ngannou, Aljamain Sterling and Nate Marquardt, this card looks like it could be one of the UFC’s best Fox shows ever.
