Tom Taylor - July 24, 2017

Germaine de Randamie recounts process that led to her being stripped of the title

Tom Taylor - July 24, 2017

Back in February, Dutch striking specialist Germaine de Randamie defeated Holly Holm by decision to become the first-ever UFC women’s featherweight champion. Though hers was a somewhat controversial win, it was a definite feel-good moment for the Dutchwoman and her fans. Unfortunately, her reign took a rather unfortunate turn several months later, when she refused to defend her title against top contender Cris “Cyborg” Justino, citing Cyborg’s previous failed drug test as a reason. Given that Cyborg has proven herself to be a clean fighter and a deserving title challenger, De Randamie was stripped of the title by the UFC. Cyborg will now battle Tonya Evinger for the vacant throne at UFC 214 this Saturday. On the latest edition of The MMA Hour, the former champion De Randamie recounted the process that led to the UFC stripping her of the title.

Michael Bisping to Chris Weidman: Put your f*cking Dad on a leash

Tom Taylor - July 24, 2017

Over the weekend, in the main event of UFC on Fox 25, former UFC middleweight champion scored a crucial submission win over surging contender Kelvin Gastelum, correcting a three-fight losing-streak in the process. Unsurprisingly, Weidman was tremendously excited with this win. His father, who is known to be one of his biggest fans, was also very excited. In the wake of this win, Weidman and reigning UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping have turned up the heat on their longstanding beef. In the latest instalment of this beef, Bisping suggested that Weidman should take his father down a notch, because his excitement is “embarrassing.”

Daniel Cormier won't be squashing his beef with Jon Jones after UFC 214

Tom Taylor - July 24, 2017

This Saturday night, in the main event of UFC 214, Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones will finally settle their score – knock on wood. Their main event title fight will mark the latest crescendo in one of the fiercest rivalries in MMA, a rivalry Jones recently said he’d be willing to put to bed post-fight. “This rivalry ends at UFC 214 and after (the fight), I honestly have no problem with Daniel Cormier,” Jones told FloCombat.com. “If he wants to be friends, be a sportsman and realize I’m just the better fighter, that would be great. It would show a lot about who he is. I doubt he’ll do that though based on how he acted the first time I beat him.”

UFC on Fox 25 in Long Island produces terrible overnight ratings

Tom Taylor - July 24, 2017

On Saturday night, the UFC debuted in Long Island, New York with UFC on Fox 25. This 14-fight card was an exciting one for fans, as we witnessed impressive finishes, brilliant comebacks, and back-and-forth wars. Unfortunately, the card was an absolute dud from a viewership perspective. In fact, it brought in the lowest overnight viewership ratings in UFC on Fox history. According to MMAFighting.com, this Fox card did 1.64 million viewers overnight. This number puts the card in the lowest-ever spot, surpassing the last UFC on Fox show, which was headlined by a flyweight title fight between Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and Wilson Reis, and held the previous overnight low at 1.7 million.

Yoel Romero wants Michael Bisping fight, even if it's not for the belt: He needs to pay

Tom Taylor - July 24, 2017

Earlier this month, in the main event of UFC 213, Cuba’s Yoel Romero stepped into the cage with Robert Whittaker in an interim middleweight title fight. Despite a strong start, Romero lost this fight by unanimous decision, thereby losing his chance a a title-unifying showdown with undisputed champ Michael Bisping. While Romero understands he’s lost this chance for the moment, however, he still wants to fight Bisping as soon as possible – whether it’s for the belt or not. This desire stems in large part from Bisping’s controversial ripping up of a Cuban flag during Romero’s fight with Whittaker.

Last night, in the second fight of the UFC Long Island main card, light heavyweight wrestler Patrick Cummins stepped into the cage with dangerous New Yorker Gian Villante. After three fun rounds of action, Cummins was awarded a split decision win. While Cummins will leave Long Island a winner, he certainly didn’t look the part post-fight. Shortly after having his hand-raised, the badly bruised light heavyweight was carted off to the hospital, where he was examined for any serious damage. Along the way, Cummins shared an “ambulance selfie” on Twitter, which only served to illustrate how much punishment he absorbed en route to his split win over Villante. Tom Taylor - July 23, 2017

There are those who believe wholeheartedly that Mayweather will be too much for the inexperienced Irishman in the boxing ring, and others that are confident that McGregor can defy the odds and prove his doubters wrong once again. For the most part, interactions between these two factions of fight fans have been pretty civil, limited to social media debates and the like. Some fans, however, are getting a little bit too heated in the buildup to this massive showdown.
