Former two-time UFC welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson thinks it would be “awesome” if the UFC decided to implement some new weight classes. With that said, “Wonderboy” doesn’t expect the leading mixed martial arts promotion to be adding new divisions anytime soon.

Saint Preux entered the contest on the heels of a submission loss to Ilir Latifi. Prior to that, “OSP” had strung together three straight stoppage victories over opponents Corey Anderson, Yushin Okami and Marcos Rogerio de Lima respectively.

According to a report from ESPN, former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler’s current Bellator contract is set to expire “imminently.” This news has generated a tidal wave of excitement among fans who are interested in seeing Chandler, long considered one of the world’s premier lightweights, move to the UFC’s Octagon where a bevy of fresh matchups await. According to ESPN’s report, however, Chandler and his team are currently engaged in “productive” negotiations with Bellator, which would seem to imply a high likelihood of his re-signing with the promotion. That said, the report also mentions that Chandler is willing to see what other promotions are prepared to offer too.

According to Tristar head coach Firas Zahabi, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is likely to have sustained a concussion just two weeks out from his battle with Dan Hardy. Zahabi believes St-Pierre sustained this injury in a sparring session. Worried that ending this sparring session could diminish St-Pierre’s confidence, however, Zahabi allowed it continue — with a stipulation. He explained on a recent appearance on the JRE MMA Show.

Speaking to MMA Fighting this week, the rising Englishman Edwards divulged that he’s not big on Cowboy’s approach to competition, suggesting that the American no longer cares about wins or losses.

Amazingly, Romero showed no ill-effects of his brutal weight cut in the fight itself. In fact, he looked incredible, ultimately giving up a debatable, split decision to the champ.

Tomorrow evening (tomorrow morning in North America) the UFC will take over the Singapore Indoor Arena with an exciting night of fights. This UFC Singapore card will be headlined by a compelling welterweight showdown between beloved gunslinger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and rising British prospect Leon Edwards. The co-headlining bout, meanwhile, will see Australian light heavyweight prospect Tyson Pedro take on one of his toughest opponents to date in former interim title challenger Ovince Saint Preux. The rest of the four-fight main card, finally, will be rounded out by a flyweight battle between Jessica-Rose Clark and Jessica Eye, and a welterweight bout between Li Jingliang and Daichi Abe.

In the main event, we saw former Bellator lightweight champ and UFC contender Will Brooks rebound from a three-fight skid, making a successful PFL debut with a 3-point decision defeat of Luiz Firmino.

Yesterday the news broke that Josh Barnett was being released from the UFC after a five year run in his second stint with the company. Now we get some clarity as to why. After the former UFC heavyweight champion, Barnett’s most recent win over Andrei Arlovski in September 2016, he was notified of a failed USADA test thus resulting in his suspension.

Brock Lesnar’s return to the UFC feels inevitable. The current WWE star is still under contract as a champion with the organization but his deal is apparently set to expire sooner rather than later. The fight is expected to occur on September 29, when Bellator returns to San Jose, California. This card, which is shaping up to absolutely massive for the promotion, is also expected to feature a fourth fight between light heavyweight legends Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Wanderlei Silva.
Tai Tuivasa is seeking vengeance against Mark Hunt's former foes

Rising heavyweight contender Tai Tuivasa is hoping to avenge some of the losses of his mentor, heavyweight legend Mark Hunt. Most notably, Tuivasa is interested in getting some payback against Brock Lesnar, whose win over Hunt was overturned due to a failed drug test. While vengeance is one of the main drivers for Tuivasa’s interest in Lesnar, however, he’s also aware that he’d likely get a big payday for this fight.
