MMA Community reacts to Chad Mendes first-round TKO victory over Myles Jury

Former UFC featherweight title challenger Chad Mendes (18-4 MMA) returned to action at tonight’s UFC Fight Night event in Boise, Idaho against Myles Jury. The fight marked Chad’s first bout since December of 2015 when he was defeated by Frankie Edgar via first-round knockout.

A featherweight fight between former division title challenger Chad Mendes and perennial contender Myles Jury took place on tonight’s UFC Boise main card. Chad Mendes entered tonight’s fight sporting an overall record of 17-4 but has not competed since December of 2015 when he was knocked out by Frankie Edgar.

However, the title fight rematch was eventually changed to a no-contest this after Jones failed his final pre-fight drug test which detected trace amounts of the anabolic steroid turinabol in his system.

Over the last few weeks, he’s issued repeated callouts of Neil Magny and Kamaru Usman, and answered the callout of surging British contender Leon Edwards. “If [Edwards] is the biggest ranked guy I can get my hands on than that’s who it is,” Masvidal said on a recent episode of BJPENN.COM Radio. “Doesn’t really matter. If they were to offer me a number 5 dude, number 4 dude, of course I’m gonna say yes to that over Leon.”

The biggest fight on UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier’s horizon is a showdown with former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar. That said, Lesnar isn’t likely to be available until at least January, which has Cormier considering a light heavyweight title defense in the meantime — against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. “Maybe I’ll go fight Shogun, that would be good,” Cormier said on a recent episode of Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show. “I am serious, maybe I will go fight Shogun. He has won a lot of fights in a row.”

However, that was far from the case at UFC 226, when the chiseled heavyweight phenom dropped a second consecutive loss. The typical jovial response following an Ngannou fight was replaced with a chorus of boos ringing throughout the T-Mobile Arena.

Last night, UFC President Dana White and former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub engaged in a very public war of words — in the comments section of an Israel Adesanya Instagram post. In this post, White warned Adesanya not to take Schaub seriously, which prompted Schaub to fire back. “Such a f—kin tool!!!!” White said of Schaub in his comment (via MMAMania). “What the f—k does this idiot know about the sport or the business??? @stylebender for u to be listening to one word from this MORON is a waste of ur time. Guy went 6-5 in the UFC!!! The only thing he could teach u is how to get KO’d. Tune idiots like this OUT.”
