It took the UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov a few months after his massive title defending win over Conor McGregor at UFC 229 to finally receive his fine and suspension from the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC). Of course, the punishments came in response to the post-fight scuffle that ensued following the fight between both Nurmagomedov and McGregor’s camps.

As expected, the Canadian MMA legend announced the end of his fighting career at a Thursday morning press conference at the Bell Centre in Montreal., the very same arena he fought in so many times. In the wake of this news, many top fighters took to social media to offer Georges St-Pierre messages of respect and congratulations. Not everybody, however, has love for the former welterweight and middleweight champ.

Israel Adesanya has opened as a slight betting favorite against Kelvin Gastelum for their interim middleweight title fight at UFC 236. Oddsmaker Nick Kalikas of BetDSI opened “Stylebender” as a -185 favorite (bet $185 to win $100) against Gastelum +155 (bet $100 to win $155) ahead of their clash on Apr. 13.

The Canadian legend announced the end of his mixed martial arts career at a Thursday morning press conference at the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec Canada. “There’s no tears. I’m very happy to do it,” St-Pierre said in the English portion of his retirement message. “In combat sports you should retire on top, that’s what I’m going to do. I’m happy I have the discipline to do it.”

UFC 237, scheduled for May 11, will no longer be occurring in Curitiba, per a report from Combate. Due to a scheduling issue with the Curitiba football team Club Athletico Paranaense, the card will now go down in Rio de Janeiro on the same night.
ONE: A New Era in Tokyo is absolutely stacked

On March 31, Asian martial arts powerhouse ONE Championship will make its debut in the MMA hotbed of Tokyo, Japan with ONE: A New Era. This card, which will emanate from the hallowed Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall in the city’s Sumida ward, is absolutely stacked. The card will be topped by a whopping four ONE Championship title fights, including one champion-versus-champion showdown.

Robert Whittaker was supposed to defend the UFC middleweight title against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 234 earlier this month. Unfortunately, the champion was forced out of the fight on the very day of the card, and rushed into the hospital with a collapsed hernia. This issue could keep Whittaker on the shelf for quite some time. Given that it’s already been close to a year since his last fight, the promotion has decided to create an interim middleweight title to keep the division moving in his stead. The interim title fight will occur at UFC 236 on April 13, when Gastelum battles undefeated contender Israel Adesanya.

News of Georges St-Pierre’s planned retirement prompted UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov to make one final effort to goad him into a fight. While Nurmagomedov’s call for a fight with St-Pierre excited some fans, however, it didn’t go over well with the many UFC lightweight contenders awaiting a shot at the champ’s belt, such as Al Iaquinta and Dustin Poirier. Poirier was first to react to today’s GSP vs. Khabib talk, first expressing his frustration with an emoji, and ultimatately calling for the UFC to release him, evidently fed up with waiting for a title shot.
