Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and UFC veteran Nate Diaz were in Las Vegas for the UFC 200 IFW Launch Event to promote UFC 200. Edgar is set to fight former featherweight champion Jose Aldo in an interim featherweight championship match while it is unknown if Diaz will still be fighting on the marquee card.

During the UFC 200 press conference, UFC President Dana White revealed that Nate Diaz currently doesn’t have a new opponent for the July 9th event, however he will remain on the card. When asked about Conor McGregor, White explained that it isn’t fair for McGregor to stay on the card without physically showing up to all of the required media obligations for the event. White also went on to point out that fighters in attendance at the event flew in from all over the world, and there was no reason McGregor should be exempt.

At the UFC 200 press conference on Friday, many expected the UFC to announce who Nate Diaz’s replacement opponent would be for UFC 200. While UFC President Dana White didn’t announce Diaz’s new opponent for the event, he did confirm that Diaz will in fact remain on the card despite reports that indicated he had been pulled. In addition, White revealed that the door was now closed for McGregor, and he would not have an opportunity to fight at UFC 200.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor threw a huge monkey wrench into the UFC 200 card this week, all the way from Iceland. On Tuesday, “The Notorious” tweeted that he has decided to retire and the UFC announced later in the day that they pulled McGregor from the main event spot where he was slated to rematch Nate Diaz.

The Diaz brothers are likely the most well-known marijuana advocates in the MMA community. The elder Nick Diaz has actually tested positive for marijuana multiple times with competition testing and his last positive test in 2015 nearly had him suspended for five years. His suspension was later brought down to 18 months and will actually be eligible to fight again in August.
