Dana White: ‘I didn’t want Nate Diaz to get screwed up in this whole deal’

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor threw a huge monkey wrench into the UFC 200 card this week, all the way from Iceland.

Flipping the bird

On Tuesday, “The Notorious” tweeted that he has decided to retire and the UFC announced later in the day that they pulled McGregor from the main event spot where he was slated to rematch Nate Diaz.

While McGregor has already missed his opportunity to abide by the UFC’s media schedule to fight Diaz at UFC 200, Diaz is now without an opponent.

UFC President Dana White spoke with TMZ and what things are looking like for Diaz now with McGregor out of the picture.

“Yeah well that’s the thing, I didn’t want Nate to get screwed up in this whole deal and not have the opportunity to fight on this card,” White said. “So we talked to Nate, we threw out some opponents, and we’ll see what happens.”
