With this outcome, Romero also failed to lock down his long-awaited fight with undisputed middleweight champ, Michael Bisping. Despite this fact, Romero has been busy calling Bisping out on social media, doing what he can to keep their beef alive.

Yoel Romero explains love-hate relationship with Michael Bisping

bjpenndotcom - July 7, 2017

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping and top middleweight contender Yoel Romero have a rather lengthy, and very public, rivalry going back quite some time now. Following Yoel Romero’s knockout of Chris Weidman at UFC 205, where Bisping was in attendance for his Fox Sports 1 duties, the ‘Soldier of God’ campaigned for a fight with Bisping, calling out “I love you Mike!” as part of his post-fight Octagon interview. This started a string of back and forth insults between the pair spanning across the next several months, which saw both men launch scathing verbal attacks at one another.

Georges St-Pierre formally challenges Michael Bisping to November showdown

bjpenndotcom - July 6, 2017

Earlier this year, the UFC announced that former welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre was coming out of retirement to challenge middleweight champion Michael Bisping for the middleweight title. Despite the fact that the promotion held a press conference for the event, a deal was never finalized, and no date was ever given for the fight. After an eye injury forced Georges St-Pierre to postpone, Bisping then revealed that he was having complications from a knee injury, and would be unable to fight GSP in the first half of the year.

Tom Taylor - July 6, 2017

UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping is not a fan of UFC 213 interim middleweight title challenger Yoel Romero. In fact, the champ has publicly stated that he hopes Romero loses decisively to his UFC 213 opponent Robert Whittaker. “Whittaker, we all know this, he’s on an absolute tear. I’ve got nothing against Robert Whittaker,” Bisping said on a May episode of his podcast. “Fine young man, great fighter, fights hard, got a lot of respect for him. Can’t say the same about Yoel. Yoel is certainly not on my Christmas card list. We all know my thoughts on him. He’s a scumbag, he’s a cheat, and that’s that. So if they do fight I, hope Whittaker beats the brains out of him.”

Michael Bisping still wants GSP, but he's starting to lose patience

Tom Taylor - July 4, 2017

This weekend, in the co-main event of UFC 213, streaking middleweight contenders Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker will collide for the interim UFC middleweight title, as the undisputed champ Michael Bisping is currently on the injury list with some knee troubles. There is no guarantee, however, that the winner of this interim title fight fights Bisping next, as Bisping is still keen on a much-discussed fight with former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. “I was supposed to fight GSP. Why wouldn’t I want to fight him? Of course, that would be big business,” Bisping said on the latest episode of The MMA Hour (h/t MMAFighting.com). “He’s a guy that will be regarded as a welterweight legend forever. I would love that fight for my legacy. We’ve been over this a million times.”

For a time, it looked as though UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping would next defend his title against former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. Yet when St-Pierre revealed he wouldn’t be able to fight until the fall, and Bisping announced that he was recovering from knee surgery, this much-discussed fight was pushed to the back burner. Since then, UFC President Dana White has suggested that, if St-Pierre does return, it will not be to the middleweight division as originally planned, but instead to the welterweight division while he once ruled.

When the pair stepped into the Octagon for their highly anticipated rematch, it took just minutes for Bisping to knock Rockhold out cold and claim the UFC middleweight championship.
