UFC Mexico City Results: David Martinez defeats Marlon Vera (Highlights)

We have you covered for all of tonight’s UFC Mexico City results, including the men’s bantamweight co-main event between Marlon Vera and David Martinez.

Vera (23-11-1 MMA) will enter the bout with hopes of snapping a 3-fight losing skid. During that rough stretch, ‘Chito’ has dropped decisions to Sean O’Malley, Deiveson Figueiredo and Aiemann Zahabi. The Ecuadorian’s most recent win came back at UFC 293 in August of 2023, where he defeated Pedro Munhoz by way of unanimous decision.

Meanwhile, David Martinez (13-1 MMA) will enter tonight’s co-headliner sporting a nine-fight winning streak, with his most recent triumph coming over Rob Font by way of unanimous decision this past September. Prior to that, ‘Black Spartan’ had made his Octagon debut against Saimon Oliveira, a fight which he won by first-round TKO.

Round one of the UFC Mexico City co-main event begins and Marlon Vera comes out quickly. David Martinez leaps into the pocket and just misses with a big right. ‘Chito’ with a body kick. Martinez answers with a low kick. The bantamweights trade kicks to the body now. Vera charges forward with a combination. Nothing connects though. Another low kick from Martinez. He’s very fast. ‘Chito’ with a punch. David slips it and lands a shot to the body. An exchange of low kicks. Vera follows up with a front kick to the body. A nice right hand from Martinez. He lands another. Marlon Vera loads up on a body kick. Martinez is moving a lot and making it hard for Vera to find his range. ‘Black Spartan’ with a good low kick and then an uppercut. Vera looks to engage but Martinez just uses his constant movement to slip away. A nice sweep puts David Martinez in top position on the ground. ‘Chito’ throws up a triangle attempt, but Martinez quickly breaks free and begins working some good ground and pound. The horn sounds to end the opening round.

Round two of the UFC Mexico City co-headliner begins and Marlon Vera lands a jab to get things started. He leaps in with a straight left, but David Martinez slips the punch and lands a decent kick in return. Vera’s corner believes David will begin to slow down. Vera continues to press forward. He lands a low kick and then a shot to the body. ‘Black Spartan’ with a solid hook to the body. ‘Chito’ answers with a jab. A big right hand from Martinez. And another! Vera seems to be ok and continues to pressure. A trade of hooks in the pocket. Martinez circles and continues to keep the fight moving. A head kick from Marlon Vera partially connects, but David Martinez uses that to score a takedown. He’s working from full guard. One minute remains in the round. ‘Chito’ scrambles back to his feet. He leaps in with a combination. Martinez catches a kick and looks for another takedown. This time Vera avoids. A nice kick from ‘Chito’ to end the second.

The third and final round of the UFC Mexico City co-main event begins and Jason Parrillo told Marlon Vera he will need a finish if he wants to win here in Mexico. ‘Chito’ is pressing forward but eats a stiff right for his efforts. The crowd wants to see more action. Vera with a jab and then a body kick. David Martinez is throwing but not landing nearly as much as he did in the opening rounds. ‘Black Spartan’ forces the clinch. Vera shakes him off and gets back to range. A pair of jabs from the former title challenger. Martinez is clearly slowing down here. A good jab from David. ‘Chito’ answers with a body shot. 90-seconds remain in the fight. Martinez with a pair of jabs as Vera attempts to close the distance. Marlon Vera with a good jab. He needs to follow up on those. David Martinez scrambles back to range. A 1-2 from Vera. Now a front kick to the body. Martinez is backing up now. A good knee from Vera. ‘Chito’ with a big left hook. Now he rips the body with a hook. Martinez survives the late onslaught. We go to the judges’ scorecards.
