UFC legend Kamaru Usman has given his thoughts on the MVP MMA event, and what it could mean for the sport.

Later this month, MVP MMA will put on a blockbuster event featuring the likes of Ronda Rousey, Francis Ngannou, Nate Diaz and more. It serves as easily the biggest non-UFC event in the recent history of mixed martial arts, and it has made plenty of fighters sit up and take notice – including Kamaru Usman.

Usman, as we know, is a former UFC welterweight champion, and arguably one of the best fighters of his generation. He has been in the UFC for quite some time, and he continues to push for another world title shot before he rides off into the sunset.

In a recent episode of his podcast, Usman had the following to say about MVP MMA and why it’s healthy for the sport.

Usman’s view on MVP MMA’s presence

“It’s going to be an incredible night,” Usman said on his “Pound 4 Pound” podcast with Henry Cejudo. “I think this is great for the sport of mixed martial arts – a new promotion to really shine a light on the sport of mixed martial arts. I think it’s all a win-win for everybody here to get the opportunity, and for the sport.

“The sport wins this night. It’s not this promotion vs. this promotion. I think it’s the sport as a whole that wins, especially giving an opportunity to more and more fighters to be able to do their thing. I am going to be tuned in, May 16, watching.”

While it may not be to everyone’s taste, there’s no denying that MVP MMA has the potential to really make some waves – especially if they kick on and decide to do other events in the future.
