Arnold Allen claims UFC isn’t trying to compete against Rousey-Carano card: ‘Me and Melky are headlining’

Arnold Allen doesn’t believe the UFC is trying to compete against MVP’s upcoming MMA card.
The UFC and Jake Paul’s promotion are both set to have events on May 16, as the UFC is at the Apex for a Fight Night card, while MVP is hosting an event on Netflix.
MVP’s show is headlined by the return of Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano, while other fights include Nate Diaz vs. Mike Perry, and Francis Ngannou vs. Philipe Lins. The event has big names, and Arnold Allen, who’s set to headline the UFC card on the same night, believes the UFC isn’t even trying to compete.
“I mean, the fact it’s me and Melky headlining against them, I don’t think the UFC is really trying to compete right. Not trying to put me and Melky down, but let’s be real. Star power, like, they ain’t trying to compete,” Allen said to Ariel Helwani.
It’s an interesting comment from Arnold Allen, as he believes the UFC isn’t trying to put on an event that can take viewers away from Rousey-Carano. Instead, he believes the UFC knows the MVP card has the bigger star power, so the promotion can’t even compete with it.
The UFC’s event is headlined by Allen vs. Melquizael Costa, while the co-main event is Doo Ho Choi vs. Daniel Santos, which shows the promotion isn’t using any big stars to try and steal viewers away.
Arnold Allen looking forward to Melquizael Costa fight
Although Arnold Allen isn’t sure the UFC cares about the event due to MVP’s MMA debut, he is still looking forward to his bout with Costa.
Allen knows it’s a tough out, but he does believe it’s a fan-friendly fight and will be worth watching for the fans that do tune in.
“I’m not gonna talk shit, but let’s be real… two guys in our primes, at the height of MMA. It’s at the Meta Apex, which kind of blows, but the fight itself is sick,” Allen said.
Arnold Allen enters the fight with a record of 20-4 and coming off a loss to Jean Silva. Before that, he beat Giga Chikadze by decision.
