There is no question about it, Jose Aldo is one of the greatest MMA fighters to ever live.

Jose Aldo

The former UFC and WEC featherweight king has done it all and set a lofty standard for what it means to be a great champion.

However, all good things must come to an end at some point.

Still one of the very best in the world, Aldo sees the end of the road getting nearer and nearer.

With his next fight set for UFC Fortaleza on February 2 where he will take on Renato ‘Moicano’ Carneiro, this will be the first of the last three bouts on Aldo’s current UFC contract.

The former champion recently shared that he would like to finish out his contract with the fights taking place in Brazil and then call it a career.

“I want to end my career here in Brazil. That’s what we have planned,” Aldo said during a UFC media day in Rio de Janeiro (via MMAFighting). “I want to do these three fights… I’ll fight in Fortaleza now, and I’m already negotiating my next one for May [at UFC 237], if I’m not mistaken [that’s] in Curitiba, and then finish it in the second semester, which I know will have another event in Brazil.

”There’s no reason to get here and aim for a title fight. But you can be sure that I’ll be a problem for whoever gets in front of me because I will win these three fights. You can be sure of this.”

For someone like the 11-time world champion Aldo, he has more than earned the ability to call his shots. Especially in regards to how he finishes his career.

According to his longtime coach and manager Andre Pederneiras, things are already set for it go down as planned.

“We asked them to complete Aldo’s contract fighting in Brazil so he could give the final three fights of his career to the Brazilian fans here,” Pederneiras told the media. “That’s his will, that’s what he asked Dana [White], and apparently that’s what’s going to happen.”

Jose Aldo vs Renato Moicano will be featured as the co-main event of UFC Fortaleza which takes place on ESPN+ on February 2.
