The circumstances of Jon Jones’ dealings with the United States Anti-Doping Agency are extremely mysterious. It’s been well over a year since the former light heavyweight champion’s failed drug test, which came to light after his July, 2017 fight with Daniel Cormier, yet we still have no answers with respect to his punishment. This has led some members of the MMA community to speculate that there could be some kind of seediness going on with Jon Jones’ case — perhaps even a financial payoff to accelerate his return to the cage.

UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington — who will quietly be stripped of his title when Tyron Woodley and Darren Till battle for the welterweight title at UFC 228 this weekend — has had plenty to say about his former college roommate Jon Jones in the recent past. Speaking in a recent interview with RTSport, Jon Jones had the chance to launch some return fire. Jon Jones’ main gripe with Colby Covington, he says, is the way he bends the truth. In that way, Jones feels Covington is quite similar to Chael Sonnen.

Speaking with MMAjunkie recently, Luke Rockhold discussed former UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones, who has recently been teasing a comeback, and former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar, who has recently been linked to a fight with heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier. If all goes according to the UFC’s plan, the next crack at UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will go to former champion and WWE star Brock Lesnar. While a Cormier vs. Lesnar fight is almost certain to do big business, it’s caused a bit of a headache for the UFC’s top heavyweight contenders, such as Curtis Blaydes. Blaydes, like many members of the MMA community, feels that Lesnar doesn’t belong anywhere near a UFC heavyweight title shot. Lesnar, of course, hasn’t won a fight since 2010, when he choked out Shane Carwin. Though there was briefly a win over Mark Hunt on his record in 2016, that win was overturned when he tested positive for a banned substance.

Speaking on Chael Sonnen’s Beyond the Fight podcast, Covington accused the former UFC light heavyweight champion and his management of bribing the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) in order to expedite his return to the Octagon.

Apparently, he let the residual nerves from his last fight — a decisive decision loss to Stipe Miocic — affect the way he fought at UFC 226.

In the days since Cormier’s incredible win, Jones has made a few comments on social media, but none have addressed Cormier directly. According to Jones’ manager Malki Kawa, however, Jones had plenty to say behind closed doors.
