UFC champion Islam Makhachev has given his thoughts on Jack Della Maddalena’s recent defeat at UFC Perth.

Last weekend in the main event of UFC Perth, Jack Della Maddalena suffered his second straight defeat as he was knocked out by Carlos Prates. It wasn’t exactly a particularly close fight, either, with Prates really growing in confidence as it went on before managing to secure the finish.

For Della Maddalena, this is obviously a huge setback, especially in the wake of another one-sided loss against Islam Makhachev where he lost the UFC welterweight championship. Makhachev will attempt to successfully defend the belt at some point later this year, most likely against either Prates or Ian Machado Garry.

In a recent interview, Makhachev had the following to say about seeing his former rival Della Maddalena lose again.

Makhachev’s view on Della Maddalena’s defeat

“Of course I was watching it, I was watching it live. Apparently Maddalena could not collect himself,” Makhachev told Red Corner MMA. “Maybe he hasn’t fully recovered from the last defeat. He couldn’t find his range. I have studied his fights a lot before we fought. He gets close, changes levels, and throws but this time around, he just got close and took shots. Prates did an excellent job.”

JDM is still viewed as a top welterweight by a lot of fans, but of course, significant changes need to be made if he’s serious about mounting another push for the title. Either way, some time off makes sense after a beating like that.
