TJ Dillashaw ‘glad’ Henry Cejudo won at UFC 238; still eyes rematch

By Cole Shelton - June 14, 2019

Back at UFC Brooklyn in January, bantamweight champion, TJ Dillashaw was moving down in weight to try and become a champ-champ. There he was taking on the UFC’s reigning flyweight champion in Henry Cejudo.

However, for Dillashaw, the night did not go his way. The bantamweight champion was knocked out in just 32 seconds. Then, weeks after the fight it was announced he was flagged by USADA and suspended for two years for EPO use.

Since then, Henry Cejudo was the one who went on to become a champ-champ as he beat Marlon Moraes at UFC 238. Although the Olympic gold medalist and TJ Dillashaw had their back-and-forth, the former bantamweight champ was glad Cejudo won.

“I’m glad he won. I am. More power to the guy. He is doing great things. I knew it was going to be a close fight between the two,” TJ Dillashaw said to Chael Sonnen. “I thought Marlon Moraes is the more technical fighter, but I knew he didn’t have the gas tank. You can’t deal with a wrestler that’s got a gas tank eventually it was going to come. Cejudo has been looking better and better, his program has been better. I hope he holds onto the belt until the time I get back because obviously I really want that one back, so we will see.”

Dillashaw can’t fight until January 2021. Then, the rematch against Henry Cejudo makes some sense given the two were supposed to run it back after UFC Brooklyn. But, whether or not the UFC would want to do it, or Cejudo is still the champion is unknown as only time will tell.

In the end, TJ Dillashaw was not surprised by the outcome of the fight and says he is excited to get back in there soon.
