UFC 299 Results: Jack Della Maddalena stops Gilbert Burns (Video)

We have you covered for all of tonight’s UFC 299 results, including the welterweight bout between Gilbert Burns and Jack Della Maddalena.

Burns (22-7 MMA) will be looking to rebound after suffering a lopsided unanimous decision loss to Belal Muhammad at UFC 288 in May of last year. Prior to that setback, ‘Durinho’ was coming off back-to-back wins over Jorge Masvidal and Neil Magny respectively.

Meanwhile, Jack Della Maddalena (17-2 MMA) will enter tonight’s contest sporting a sixteen-fight winning streak, his most recent being a split decision win over Kevin Holland. The Aussie has gone 6-0 since joining the UFC ranks in January of 2022.

Round one of this welterweight matchup begins and Gilbert Burns swings and misses with a low kick attempt. He follows that up with a kick to the body that connects. Another low kick attempt from ‘Durinho’ and this time it finds the mark. Both men appear to be happy to stand and trade early. Burns lands another hard body kick and then shoots in for a takedown. He gets it and looks to move to the back of his opponent. Jack Della Maddalena scrambles and is able to get back up to his feet. Burns still has a hold of him and has him pressed against the cage. Good knees from the former welterweight title challenger. ‘JDM’ with a good knee that forces the break. Maddalena with a jab. He lands a soft low kick. More jabs and then a hook from the Aussie. Gilbert Burns swings and misses with a big right hand. ‘Durinho’ with a nice kick to the body. He looks to capitalize but misses with his follow up shots. Jack Della Maddalena with a nice body shot. Burns misses with a left hook and gets countered by a 1-2. Gilbert looks for a single leg, but it is not there. He swings a misses with a high kick. Another good body kick from the Brazilian. He shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown. A good hammer from Burns closes out round one.

Round two of this welterweight matchup begins and Jack Della Maddalena opens with a front kick to the body. He continues to utilize his jab to keep Gilbert Burns at distance. ‘Durinho’ with a nice kick to the body. ‘JDM’ replies with a 1-2. Burns shoots in and scores a takedown. He has a leg trapped which is preventing Maddalena from getting back to his feet. Jack eventually breaks the hold and scrambles back up. Gilbert Burns with a nasty standing elbow. Jack eats it and continues to press forward with his jab. Good shots from both men in the pocket. Burns lands a right, but then gets countered by a 1-2. Two minutes remain in the second frame. Jack Della Maddalena with another good jab. He goes to the body with a right hand. Burns with a big right hand over the top. He shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Maddalena scrambles and ‘Durinho’ looks to lock up a guillotine. He let’s that go and takes top position. Another scramble and now Burns is on Jack’s back. He locks in a body triangle but the horn sounds before he can attempt a submission.

The third and final rounds begins and Jack Della Maddalena immediately gets to work with his strikes. Gilbert Burns with a nice right hand over the top. ‘JDM’ with another solid combination that appears to stun his opponent. Burns desperately shoots for a takedown. He can’t get it but is able to push the Aussie against the cage. Another attempt and now Burns has Maddalena on the canvas. ‘Durinho’ is working hard to keep this fight on the floor. Maddalena looks to scramble but winds up giving up his back. ‘JDM’ gets back to his feet and lands a big knee to the body. A right hand and Burns goes down. Big ground and pound from Jack Della Maddalena and this one is all over! WOW!
