Georges St-Pierre vs. Anderson Silva rumored for UFC 206

Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre spoke with Canadian Sports Outlet “RDS” two days ago and stated that he would be making a “big announcement” next week.

Rumors are now swirling that GSP’s big announcement could be a super-fight with former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson “The Spider” Silva, which would headline the UFC 206 pay-per-view event set for December 10 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

St-Pierre’s long time friend and teammate Patrick “The Predator” Cote acknowledged the recent rumor on social media tweeting the following:

St-Pierre has not competed inside the octagon since his November of 2013 split-decision victory over Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 in Las Vegas.

Following his title-retaining victory over “Bigg Rigg” at UFC 167, Georges shocked the mixed martial arts world by announcing that he was walking away from the sport and thus vacating his UFC welterweight strap.

The Canadian superstar is currently riding a twelve-fight win streak and has not suffered a loss since April of 2007 when he was stopped by Matt Serra at UFC 69.

Meanwhile, former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva was last seen in action at July’s blockbuster UFC 200 event where he suffered a decision loss to current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, this after taking the fight on just two days notice.

Prior to that, “The Spider” suffered a decision loss to current UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping in a “Fight of the night” performance at UFC Fight Night 84 this past February.

Silva has gone 0-4 with 1 no-contest in his past five fights, suffering two losses to Chris Weidman during that time. Before his recent skid, Anderson Silva was riding an incredible 16-fight win streak and was considered by many to be the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

Earlier this week it was announced that current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier would be defending his title in a rematch against Anthony Johnson at UFC 206 in Toronto. However, the light heavyweight title fight between “DC” and “Rumble” was not announced as the main event for the December 10 fight card, leaving the door open for “GSP” to still headline the event in front of his home nation.
