EXCLUSIVE | Ian McCall: Irish fans are the best on the planet but most Conor McGregor fans are idiots

By Russell Ess - October 14, 2016

UFC flyweight Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall is set to return to compete in the Octagon at UFC Fight Night 99 in Belfast, Ireland on November 19. McCall will face Ireland’s Neil Seery, who will be fighting for the last time with his intent to retire after their competition.

McCall will be looking to get out to Belfast and step into the Octagon as his last three scheduled UFC fights were canceled due to an injury he sustained in one matchup while his other two opponents were forced out of competition leaving him hanging just days out from the fight.

With “Uncle Creepy” having fought in Ireland at UFC Fight Night 46, the flyweight is looking forward to performing in front of what he calls the best fans on the planet.

“I’m excited to go back,” McCall told BJPenn.com Radio host, “Kinch,” on Wednesday’s episode. “Those are the best fans on the planet by far, the Irish fans. As annoying as people can get with the whole Conor McGregor thing and of course you have to be appreciative of these fans cause they’re still watching the spot. But, you know, they’re fringe fans. They’re idiots, most of them.”

Although McCall admits that there is a good reason that so many are drawn to “The Notorious,” as he himself claimed that he is a fan.

“I’m one of them. I like Conor. I like how he fights. I like how psycho he is. But, you get a lot of these idiots that are just nameless, faceless f—ing morons on the Internet that just talk.

“With the Conor fans, the Conor fans really dug in and were talking a lot of shit and I was like laughing. One, you can’t really offend me online, not in front of me or whatever. It’s really silly.”

“But, with that said, going back to Ireland, the fans are amazing.”

With Seery announcing his intent to retire following the fight against McCall, “Uncle Creepy” is happy to be a part of the Irishman’s last hurrah.

“I get to send Neil Seery off into his next life. He’s retiring after the fight so it will be nice to send off someone that I genuinely like and appreciate him as a fighter.”
